I don't have any one close to me any more, I lost my mum a couple off years ago, I find my own company is better and I don't really trust any one

My girl friends seem to be very stuck up my attitude is live life to the full because I'm going to and life is to short I'm 31 no parents both dead no hubby he was a contrail freak but I do have 3 great children who I guess r my best friends xx

None, I have close colleagues at work, but rarely make friends.. I've moved so many times, since being a child... I've lost the ability or inclination to make close friends.... I made a few good ones in Liverpool, but then, moved.

I'm very much a loner too so I understand, I spent my childhood in isolation so it's a state I'm very much used to. I'm not inclined to form bonds for company. It's a miracle I have two friends but even them I see perhaps 3 or 4 times a year and that's enough.

I think my inability to form close friends stems from being bullied as a child. Being rejected by people I thought were my friends has caused me to have a lot of social insecurities. I don't like to feel I am imposing my friendship on people for fear of being rejected even now.

I lost a life long best friend to cancer, have one of our trio left. Plus another best friend who lives thousands of miles away. Whatever the distance, I spend as much time with them all. 2 of them have called me a slut, and it has stuck.

Very enlightening this thread.

I've long believed lifelong friendships are unrealistic for that majority as our lives and necessity dictates our spare time. People you can be very close to you can just drift away from and not mourn the end of the relationship you had. Im quite close to one friend but that's no guarantee he'll still be in my life in 12 months time.

Seems most people have said between 0-3 friends so I suddenly feel more normal about just having 2 friends.

For some reason I imagined everyone would have a lot more.

i have many people i would consider acquaintances, a few i would consider friends, but any i could count on in an hour of need?

anyone that i would drop everything to go and help, and would do the same for me, in a mutual feeling of closeness?

i have 1 or 2 members of family i would do that for, but 1 of those are my parents, so they dont really count.

If someone was going drinking or the gym, they always ask me to join him.

When there's an "event" on several people ask me repeatedly to join them (the "gym" buddy is in the same group). One or two of those people give me advice about life as a whole and one other one has actually gone out of heir way before now to make sure I am ok and don't feel left out when there's so many of us out.

Out of all them people. Have any of them been there when I needed them most? No they haven't. Would I ever open up to them without drink involved (even then I would probably regret it). No I wouldn't. So going by that it sounds like I have a lot of many good acquaintances, but no friends? Sounds depressing when you say it like that.

My childhood mates have turned into knobs and it started at a early age. I don't see many from school now, just a couple of them, but I don't socialise with them or anything. It does go to show though people do change their personalities and sometimes it isn't for the better
