"sack her and send the police round " That's the thing that is probably not going to happen. She has accepted the Parliamentary castigation of apologising to the House.

"Of course she should, looking at her level of education and where she had worked, she is no idiot and knew what she was doing was wrong The govt shouldn't be able to sit in judgement on their fellow members either, as it stinks of the backscratching favour for a favour cronyism which you get in banana republics. If Joe public fraudulently claims social security and gets found out later they get prosecuted for obtaining money by deception, not told to pay back 10% of what they stole, the same should apply to MP`s who after all are well paid and not exactly stupid are they? Her only stupid act was to believe she could have got away with it." So far she has lost credibility and £5k it's a pretty good compromise on almost getting away with it.

"Should Maria Miller MP resign her place in the cabinet or is she being bullied by the press and the public? " She should be prosecuted as anyone claiming fraudulently would be and she should have to pay the lot back. Yes, she should resign. But even if she does she'll be offered a cushy little number elsewhere.

"Yes she should go and I am not one for shouting resign, resign, resign. But she has an integrity & creditibility issue that she can not recover from. "

"Should Maria Miller MP resign her place in the cabinet or is she being bullied by the press and the public? " Definitely should go. There are no excuses for a supposedly educated intelligent person to get away with this.

"if I had done what she has I would be sacked and prosecuted by know, and I would have no chance of getting another job due to a criminal record,of course she should go" This is one of the problems - she has broken a rule and it's never clear with MPs whether it is deemed as breaking the law. I want all those that have defrauded the benefits system to be allowed to make a 30 second video apologising to be shown on a cable television channel and we'll leave it at that.

"I just know if I got caught fiddling my expenses it'd be exit stage left." I don't think the left want her. This one irks me more than the others as she appears to be being treated differently. Others have had their expense fiddling investigated as a crime and have done time. Why is Maria Miller exempt from a criminal investigation because she said she made a mistake? It also comes after all of the changes to address the expenses scandal and after a hefty pay rise.

If DC had any sense, he'd get rid of her publically - and her oaf of a secretary for blaming the media for the 'scandal'

"I had never even heard of her before this , so couldn't give a monkeys if she does the right thing and resigns " By that token every MP you have never heard of could do anything and you would be ok about it. She's Culture Secretary and makes decisions to spend tax money. As her department gets funding cuts that have resulted in redundancies and projects losing funding I find it more than a little distasteful that she fraudulently claimed enough to keep someone in their post for another year and made enough money on the sale of the property to fund a regional theatre.

"They are simply laughing at us, it's totally unacceptable. " Every politician and anyone who has any form of authority over the public does this repeatedly.

"Should Maria Miller MP resign her place in the cabinet or is she being bullied by the press and the public? " Of course she should go! If she was claiming housing benefit and had 'made a mistake' and had over-claimed £46ooo+ she would now be facing prosecution, prison and be made to repay the lot. However because she is an MP and government minister she gets to keep most of her ill-gotten gains and her job if she can tough it out! But dont forget, call me dave keeps reminding us "we're all in it together"... Guess he means the tory snouts in the trough!

"Even in her resignation statement she was making out that it should have all been put behind her after the non apology. The woman has no shame. " She is/was a politician - shame is an unknown emotion to them.

Seem to remember that they were all forced to pay back all the money they stole and that the worst offenders were prosecuted and 5 went to prison... Guess its different rules when the Tories are in power and and its one of theirs that has been found stealing from the public purse!

You mean like Alistair Darling who did more flips than a pinball machine, and Jackboot Jackie and her sisters spare room, and wasn't it her (or it could have been Harman) that famously claimed for porno movies on expenses. Didn't see either of them on Crime Watch. So don't give me the one rule for the Tories bullshit the Labour shit are just as bad if not worse.

"Sajid Javid arguing it's the same as making a mistake on benefit claims and being treated equally by being given the benefit of the doubt. " When I was on benefits a couple of years ago the chances of a mistake in claiming netting me 46p were pretty slim let alone the chances of trousering 46k so I humbly submit possibly not a very valid comparison particularly at a time when "benefits cheats" are being threatened with the full weight of the law!

"Sajid Javid arguing it's the same as making a mistake on benefit claims and being treated equally by being given the benefit of the doubt. " Actually the DHSS have a policy of immediately imposing benefits caps where there is a possible reason to do so and prosecuting ALL cases of benefits fraud.
