I've found the older I get the less superstitious I become . The only things that I really do/don't are salute a magpie and not walk under a ladder.

Are you a superstitious person??

I still always 'touch wood', throw salt over my shoulder if I spill it. But gave up on the magpies because there's to many of them here.

I dont walk under ladders, I touch wood most days and I never spill salt because I don't use the stuff (good girl)

I still have the magpie one for no real reason as I've never been unlucky only seeing one and never had any gold seeing six and since they stopped hanging people on jibs (ladders) the chances of walking into a corpse in the dark has lessened (well around here any way) so I say I'm not superstitious, touch wood.

The only thing I do sometimes is say touch wood. I walk under ladders unless I see someone up it

but which do you do some say you should cross your legs as you say it and others that you have to spit ha ha ha and you're not meant to say it in the afternoon I get so confused

I was always told to salute and say morning Mr magpie lol I don't spit..but thats a whole different subject lol

Greeting Magpies: You should make sure to greet magpies when they are encountered in order to either allay bad luck or encourage good luck as related to the number of birds.

This formality can be forgone if the Magpie looks directly in your eyes, which shows it respects you.

Common greetings include "Hello Mr Magpie"

"How is your wife/where is your wife?"

"Good Morning/Evening Sir" and other marks of respect.

More ways to avoid the bad omen of a single Magpie:

Repeat the following rhyme:

Magpie, magpie, chatter and flee,

Turn up thy tail and good luck fall me.

Take off one's hat on seeing the bird, bow, wish it 'Good day'

Blow a kiss to it

Spit over the left shoulder

Turn round three times

Cross one's fingers and say: I cross the magpie, The magpie crosses me; Bad luck to the magpie, And good luck to me.

it seems to be a different lore for each area I use the good morning one

I touch wood every morning but touch it for too long and it gets messy...not sure if that's lucky or not

Stay in on fri 13

Never pick up a knife or you'll have strife

Cracks on pavements

New shoes on tables
