Sutures and pain.

Stitches out and dressings changed tomorrow. Can't say I'm all that enamoured of the prospect but I'm treating myself to a pedicure afterwards and not a few painkillers.

Mind, the poor nurse will need eat protectors, I make noise when I'm in pain.

What do you do?

I go absolutely silent when I'm in pain. When I went to have my stitches out after spinal surgery the nurse couldn't see any, a Dr came in and he couldn't see any either, eventually they concluded that despite telling me he hadn't the surgeon had used soluble sutures....I felt a bit daft

I had my staples out the other day and i knew i wasnt gonna enjoy the experience.... I changed my dressing today and found a staple that had been left in so decided to try and get it out myself with tweezers... Now its half out and rooted in and makes me feel sick if i tug on it......nurse out tomorrow oops

I watched a superb nurse take the stitches out if my sons arm (mid/forearm to shoulder) and she was amazing. She got half way through before he realised she was that far.

Yep, that's me! I warn them to ignore me unless I say stop. If they don't, they get a real ear full.

I had a roll bead stitch about a foot long. Came out in one pull and I didn't feel a thing because my nerves were dead along the scar. They still are which feels strange

I've had staples pinged off me - they tug more than stitches and aint too bad.

I have also been stitched up, conscious and without anesthetic - either local or general. They were fannying about and I just wanted them to get the bloody job done.

I used to have a coach when I was a nipper who was fond of saying "its only pain, boy" and this gives me perspective.

Completely agree. I've pushed out a couple of nine pounders but I'd rather do that again than what's ahead tomorrow!

Well!

After being told to attend today for suture removal and dressing change, all they needed to do was change the dressing as there are no sutures. Bonus!

The wound is looking excellent, bruising is fading fast and I feel great. Shame I overdid it on the way home though, I've done nothing since coming home.

Last time I had stitches out I was watching the nurse, it didn't hurt at all. I did go grey and nearly faint, funny I used to love things like that.

I hate the staples when they come out, they stung a bit.

I'm very vocal. It's especially fun when they need to take blood since I have challenging veins. I always warn them that it's going to be tricky and I sometimes get that "yes dear" look.

Since it once took five medicos (a mix of nurses, doctors and phlebotomists) more than two hours to get 20ml of blood I usually find they see things my way after a while.

And since I generally finish up covered in bruises I feel entitled to yell. I don't flinch though.
