I think I did it via blue tooth. In settings there's an option on my Nokia

What network are you on? Vodafone shops have a little box of tricks that they plug both phones in and transfer them for you. Otherwise good luck! Apple stuff is a pain in the arse to work with. I'll have a poke around on Mrs phone and see if I can help

I think you can just back up onto a Google account and download to your new phone

I couldn't do it and neither could my tech savvy mate so I ended up taking mine into O2 shop and the guru chap did it for me

I did it that way and it worked. Sync all contacts to google account. Then add your gmail account to your iPhone and sync contacts it then brings then all across

For some reason it won't sync as my android phone has no service

Not even if you hook it up to a PC?

York

Before you do anything back up your contacts (there will be an option somewhere), plug into your pc and copy the .vcf file to your PC. That will give you a standard format file you can access in an emergency. I know bugger all about an iPhone, wouldn't touch one with a barge pole, but I bet you can upload your vcf file and restore it to the iPhone directory/sim.

ps, note to everybody, back your effing directories up to your PC regular like - nothing worse than a lost contact list.
