Over the rainbow, under the bridge

One version of the shirt, made from the same 'cooling' material as those worn by the players, is being sold to the public at £90. There have been calls for the price to be dropped, and criticism that it is an example of 'rip-off' Britain.

What's the fuss? Just don't buy over - priced goods. The power is in the hands of the consumer.

Radio said £ 4/5 to make

Cheapest at £60

Match shirt at £90

I think the FA should price fix.....£30/40 quid be reasonable?

The whole team top industry is one built around spinning money.

The clubs have a ready and eager market who will moan but still pay £40 /£50 annually to demonstrate their allegiance and support.

They are not fashion statements and demonstrate just how much tribalism is alive and kicking in Western culture.

If that is your thing then fair enough. After all 1 decent casual shirt can cost similar, if not more.

£90 however is a piss take. Is national pride in English football strong enough to validate the price.

Time will tell.

if fans dont buy these over priced shirts with their favourite players names on then these premier league clubs would unable to sustain their over inflated wage structures and poor business models so i say stop buying them and get back to reality i just feel sorry for the parents who have kids who want the latest shirts.

There is a normal version at a cheaper price - don't know how much- but this one is meant to be just like the ones worn by the players. They are quite snug fitting too so won't flatter every body shape.

As someone said before, regular tops can cost that much and more but how much wear would you get out of a football top?

It wouldn't be SO bad if they kept the kits for longer. Since Nike have made England kits (was it last year?), they have played something daft like 8 or 9 ganes in it, and are now replacing it with this one. It is disgraceful.

its their money they can spend it how they like.

its the kids that will be squalking over having it, and their well to do friends that will take the piss out of them having the stadium shirt, instead of the 'real' one.

how many say no to their kids?

While I agree it is overpriced the £90 shirt is the actual type worn by the players & is made to withstand the humidity in Brazil as well as being pulled etc. There is a looser official version available for £53. That price is in line with many other countries. Brazil are charging £50

Suppy and demand. If England get through the group stages the £90 one will probably sell out. Those that can, will, because they won't want to be seen in the cheaper shirt.

If it's your job to maximise profits for Nike or the FA then it's potentially a very clever move. Economics is not about morals.

I don't even do that anymore....

I get my shirts from retro suppliers such as toffs... they actually have an agreement with most clubs to supply them...

so for example... I can go to the football at Arsenal.. retro 1930's shirt... 50 quid... never goes out of style....

I couldn't agree more choice to buy is in the hands of the consumer but controversy sells papers as they say so that's why the media like to make a big thing of it. I won't be buying one but then again I often cringe at middle age men in team shirts and as I have a full length mirror in the hall I couldn't live with myself.
