I've just used my waffle iron again. It's a great bit of kit and the waffles are superb. Can anyone suggest any delicious toppings, or savoury ideas for them. So far I've had them with vanilla ice cream, maple syrup and chocolate sauce. Yum, just going to turn the iron on...

Sheffield

Cut an apple into 8 and saute with a knob of butter, some sugar and a slug of rum or calvados.

You can do the same with banana halves.

Ok.. Seeing as I managed to derail your thread:

Think of iron waffles as toast, and you have a base for pretty much any topping you like, sweet or savoury, plus the added bonus of mini pockets:

Mash up some garlic, finely dice some fresh tomato (discard the seeds n wet stuff), finely slice some mozzarella. Make waffles.

Spread/ brush the garlic over the surface.

Drizzle some virgin olive oil.

Sprinkle the tomatoes into the pockets.

Salt n black pepper to taste.

Sprinkle some fresh basil leaves.

Eat warm.

As above... Layer some mozzarella on top and pop under the grill till melted. Substitute oregano powder for the basil...

Eat hot.
