Tickler Cheese - its extra mature but smooth

tuxford & tebbit stilton - its stilton but better than the rest

cheshire vintage crumbly - oldest cheese in england

Cheese is mood food.... depends

There's nothing like a tray of room temperature cheese and a good assortment of biscuits. Got to be wine or tea to wash it down.

Cheese on toast or jacket spud = Strong cheddar.

Ploughmans with pickle - Strong cheddar

Warm and runny = Camembert

Spread thickly on biccies.. Brie

Special texture = Port Salut

Most unusual I've ever had = Sticky Toffee Cheddar

Ringing the changes = Mexican Spicy

Fruity ones = Soft crumbly stilton with apricot or berries

Blue ones = Danish or Gorgonzola

Soft blue = Got to be St. Agur

Just to eat or pile high on pizza = Mozarella.

There's nothing excting to say about Edam.

I love Cheese Strings , Dairy Lea and Seriously strong spread

Stilton, without a doubt. Either coulson basset or long clawson. I love it when its so ripe you can spread it on your bread mmmmmmmm. I like most other cheeses but not struck on mature cheddars like cathedral city

Anyone ever bought a strong cheddar and it has salt crystals inside.... I love it! I don't think they are supposed to be there. It's like finding that huge dollop of cheese flavour in your chipitos!

I've tried different cheeses but tbh I'm a total chav and always revert back to good old Cheddar. We buy Cathedral City Mature and it seems to serve our purposes for anything we need cheese for, except Parmesan for Salads, Pasta and Jacket Potatoes.

Saying that i would love to go on a cheese holiday and gorge myself on the stuff washed down with a few ales.

Love cheese and would always end meal with cheese rather than dessert.

Choices include

Blue Castello (Available at Sainsburys, really mild and creamy and lovely with sweetish chutney or grapes)

Applewood smoked cheddar (Lidl make a lovely one, believe it or not)

Some local cheeses (I have a friend who makes her own - yummy)

Bries from Somerset

The list goes on - love them with fresh pineapple or grapes or Kiwi...

Yes! There's a brand I can't remember the name of that I've bought from Tesco before which has them. The difference is, I don't like it, feels like I'm eating grit haha.

ok im going to show my self up now

the salt crystal arrive in the cheddar due to an over maturation of the product

as cheese is an organic product it cant be controlled too much but i agree it is nice - it normally happens around the 18month age group

the two cheeses on the market are Cornish Cruncher and Tickler

CC is M & S and Tickler is Co oP and JS and Tesco

if you dont like it but you like the maturity go for a farmhouse extra mature - try Greens on the deli counter or Denhay - both M & S and Waitrose

You know - I do love food, always have done and I am fussy with where and what I buy, however, I have found both Lidl and Aldi to offer fabulous products. You just got to know what you are looking for and try a few things, even if the label is in different language.

Well, I cannot see the point when I an buy quality at a cheaper price, why on earth would I not do so.

When I was in Germany a few weeks ago, mum told me about a colleague, who is well-known in politics and not short of cash. He was spotted shopping in Aldi and promptly asked why he did so when he could afford to shop in the more expensive shops. He replied that the reason he was wealthy was just that - he shopped wisely and knew what to look for.

The Aldi is in another town, so I don't go there that often. However, with my new job, I shall drive pass that town en route to work and home. Therefore, I suspect I shall visit the shop more often from now.

And yes, I have been an Aldi fan since 1990s when I lived in a town with one, and discovered they have those continental sausages that are great on the BBQ!

There is definitely something to be said about the continental sausages - my partner defended the English ones in a heated debate and after a bottle of some genuine Jägermeister - it was funny as the Germans did not understand what he was saying, he did not understand what they were saying but everybody got on well...

Next debate this summer will be on the comparison of a juicy English steak versus the German whopper...

Wonder who will win this time.;-)

i LOVE it when they put the reductions on food as its going out of date - most of it you can freeze so i bulk buy it as pittance, and really enjoy it

I actually looked yesterday in the local stores and it does not appear to be sold there. I am sure I have seen it in this country though - if not, will have to bring you some back next time we go to Germany - (several times a year to visit my rather big family)

I have come to the conclusion I am a reverse snob when it comes to cheese cos I only eat chedder and bourson.

Chedder for anything which isnt crackers and bourson for crackers.

I read down this thread thinking nope never heard of that, or that, or that!!

I must try some of the ones I hadnt heard of.
