technology ruining life?

is modern tech ruining lives?

all this stuff was supposed to improve our lives, make the world smaller and bring everyone closer, but, now it seems its perfectly acceptable to sack people by texts or email, let people know their loved ones are dead by text and so on and so forth

seems to be taking the personable part of life away.

what do you think?

I must say i havnt yet been sacked by Email but if i did i would be making a trip to the office to explain to the sender very forcefully why they lack basic man management skills

Its become impossible to live without,ive had no internet access at home for 4 days and have discovered that most things that I use are linked to wifi and it was so frustrating not to have it available as and when I wanted it

That doesn't mean I find it acceptable to use it in an impersonal way if theres a better option

I was shocked to hear that the families of the people on the missing plane were sent text messages to say their relatives were dead,Its pretty crass and undermines the relevance and devastating effect the news was bringing

However....would an email have been better? Or even a written letter? The news was the worst possible to give or recieve and with so many people to inform in the quickest way possible I wonder what other media would have been better? Im assuming/hoping that all of the relatives will at least get some personal contact from the representatives of Malaysia airways too

100 years ago you might have been sacked by letter, during the war people were informed of the death of their loved ones by telegram it's all written word just using a different medium.

The relatives of the people on the Malaysian airliner must have been devastated to receive that news by text but if the media had got hold of the story before all of them could be reached in person they might have heard it on the radio or seen it on tv.

A few years ago I loved it when my phone broke and I didnt replace it for 6 months +.

I dont think I would enjoy it so much now.

I thank modern technology as one fine example is the machines the health services use.

As mentioned above, its how we use that technology thats the problem.

Those poor people getting notified by text that they belive their relatives died in the plane accident. For fuck sake.

Chatting (kinda) about this with a GP this lunchtime.

They introduced a text message 24 hours before an appointment system a year ago and the no-show rate has dropped considerable.

I thought that too. A text may be crap but it's all over the news etc. I think I'd want to know before I saw it on tv or something. A personal visit would be best but with over 200 relatives to inform very quickly, that would be impossible.

see, i now have 3 bloody mobiles.

if it wasnt for V and work, i would quite happily throw them in the back of a drawer and forget about them
