If you put age into a compliment does it become less complimentary and slightly insulting,?

I e, " you look really good," or " you look really good for your age,"

Perhaps your use of the word "slightly" is a bit of an understatement..... in fact, leave it out completely and then the answer would be "Yes!"

I would say slightly less complimentary. Id rather someone stoped after ' look good'

If I got told now I look good for my age, I'd find it insulting.

However, when I'm 60+, if I get told that, I'd probably be really happy.

I think it would be more complimentary to say something like " you look much younger " Adding a caveat isn't good.

I smiled when the message came through. It was from a much younger ( most people are younger than me) Lady and I thought, ' yey ' and then a few sexconds later I thought ahhh thats not as good as it appeared,,

Then I thought the sentiment was intended the wording could have been better,

So is it the younger folk who use 'age' in a 'complimentary ' sense / term,?

Why add a conditional element to a compliment? You think someone looks good, hot etc, you tell them.

If anything, make it really personal, and also avoid gushing compliments especially any that have an ulterior motive, at all costs. Much better to be sincere and honest, and not leave others to be querying your real thoughts etc.

It can do but then some give them with that intention anyway.

It's a difficult one because the intention is often to compliment. I much prefer to be told I look good without qualification though no one would deem it complimentary to be told they look good for a short person of some other aspect of themselves that they couldn't change.

It does. But if someone says 'Wow, you're never 54!!' that is fine! It's a thin grey line of attitudes and perceptions....I guess your compliment is also a lot more ambiguous.

I took it as a compliment, it was intended that way, I can t remember the exact words it was something like " you ve got a great body for a guy your age,,"

I guess a better way would have been guys half your age would like that body,

and yea The ladies who ve posted on here do look great,
