Does anyone know of apps or other facility in which you can talk to someone like a regular phone call but without exchanging telephone numbers? To avoid post phone call nuisances?

After having my fingers burned I am much more careful about giving my number out. If a guy says he would like to chat, I explain that and suggest that he gives me his number and I call him so I can withhold mine. It works for me and none of the guys have so far complained that I am a nutjob or stalker who takes advantage of having their number!!

"2 cups and a piece of string....no number needed "

I like multi-purpose solutions they can be used as a bra when not needed for communication

"Second sim for "play friends".

You could a dual sim phone like the Samsung Galaxy S Duos (search somewhere like expansys, around £128 at the moment as its a sllightly outdated model) or if you're feeling Flush there's a Dual SIM version of the HTC One (which is very nice but pricey, just shy of £500, use mine for Work & Personal SIMs).

PAYG SIM cards are 10 a penny. Put your normal one in slot 1 & the "burn" SIM in slot 2.

You can name the sims plus set different ring tones and select which is the default to call from (although you can override) and in Mesages you selct which one to send from

Or you could have a second play phone for less than £50 and switch it off when you like.

I really couldn't be arsed to have 2 phones

If I like someone I'll exchange numbers, never had any major problems with this so far and theres always the block button if I want to use it

I can't abide anonymous chat apps

This...I've got 40 or so Fabbers in my phone, never had a problem as yet and as it's an iPhone I can block a number should it become necessary
