"Don't suppose there's any competant users online 5.45 pm??"

try a youtube search for what you want to do with it. There are some good walk throughs for the different tasks on various adobe products

It's more off the cuff questions - like why has the font I downloaded off cloud last month disappeared and why can I not select that square red box when the path that frames it is recognised?

I'm playing with files I did not create so do not really know what's what, the software is new to me.

Check to see if the box is locked or fill because you might be selecting another object behind are you using mac or pc. mac check font book, pc can't remember.

Yes check the artwork isn't locked and then check the layers to see if any are locked.

Does it substitue the font?

Sorted the font, it just needed to update the cloud to restore it. Only one layer - how do I check if it's locked or not (I can select the reversed type laid over the top of said red box fine though, with either pointer)?

Ta muchly x

click on the box go up to the object menu drop down uncheck if the unlock is highlighted or maybe you are working with symbols. Is the path closed are you using the selection tool not direct select tool.

Trying both tools - I cannot select the object, a square coloured box, at all! If I hovver any selection tool over the edge I get the word 'Path' in green and an x on the path, but I cannot select it, nothing happens if I click on it (right, left, single, double, whatever!). I'm on a PC BTW.

Sounds like it's on a hidden locked layer to me. Easy way to check is to select everything in the layer palette. Then go to the top right of the palette to the little menu button. In there select 'lock all layers'. Then while all layers are still selected go back into the menu and select 'unlock all layers'. That should fix it if that was the problem.
