this satellite imagery we are getting of debris etc weeks after the plane went missing is all well & good,

but, as this is possible, is there no images from the time the plane went missing up to the 7 or 8 hours of flying time afterwards that can be checked from satellite images?

just a thought i had that seems quite feasible as a way of tracking its movements

Satellites take thousands of images I guess its like looking for a needle in a haystack or even harder after all its taken weeks to find what they already have.

it's only feasible if a civilian satellite was tasked in the area in question at the time in question. it would take many such sats to cover the area for the length of time you describe as they move so quickly. then the data would have to be analysed.

likewise it would take many sats of a military or other governmental origin but the info would be difficult for them to release due to covert ops or other national security interests and it's unlikely it would be released.

You can triangulate between 3 mobile towers to pinpoint a location so to substantiate this crock of shit theory how many mobile communication towers have you seen in the middle of the pacific ocean?

Smart phones have gps so they don't need to triangulate between towers its just a distraction from whatever is really happening like when Justine beiber got arrested they didn't show the riots going on it was all about him Russia has invaded some place and suddenly a plane goes missing

GPS works off the triangulation from the telephone masts. Not too many masts in the Indian ocean. I have been lost far too many times out in the sticks because my phone is out of range with no signal

That only gives you a radius of a few miles not exact location gps show exact location using satellites not phone masts my phone has gps i phones and blackberry have gps look at fukushima they covered that up with more shit and the security at that place the company dose not exist but hey the news is always right

satellite's are moved where they're needed they're too expensive to waste photographing empty ocean unless there's good reason to so they won't have randomly caught the plane in flight.

No it doesn't gps works of triangulation of GPS satellites in geostationary orbit it works anywhere you can get line of sight to more than 3 satellites which is nearly everywhere on earth besides canyons etc

My iPhone doesn't have GPS it uses triangulation which is pretty accurate, to about 2m, but doesn't work at all when the phone is switched off.

Fukushima was a very bad cover up... watched it burn on the news! Only stupid mistake was that they put 4 big reactors in one place, so what caused the melt down was lack of electricity when the entire power system was hit by a big wave.

There are 10's of thousands of planes, flocks of birds and weather balloons etc. flying in the search zone, all look like dots on a satellite picture IF there is one, there are not that many satellites taking constant photos of the oceans, but lets say there were, someone has to sort through and zoom in on every dot to see what it is, it takes time.

I see that the BBC news is reporting a drop in Russian tourist spending in the UK during February with the spin that it is related to the current crisis... what nonsense! that would assume the Russian public were informed about the current situation before they booked holidays, given that they need a visa to visit the UK that seems pretty unlikely to me.

Sometimes too much unsorted and unverified information is worse than too little. We all have a desperate curiosity about the missing plane and finding the date and time of each bit of information floating past the news is important in keeping a level head on it.

Bottom line is plans have accidents, including all the civil, military, and light aircraft there is probably more than one each and every day. But the fantastic part of this one is the worlds news is on it feeding every fact they can find to a hungry audience.

Reality is in the last 14 days, 10 x the number of people on that plane have almost certainly disappeared many never to be found, but it's only family and friends that are looking nobody else cares.

There is no conspiracy, just a tight focus of world interest which is probably hindering the search much more than helping it.

The reason the search has moved to a very remote part of the ocean is that the plane did communicate with a satellite and the data gave a couple of flight paths One over land ( can t remeber where exactly) and the southern ocean corridor, as it was likely a jet flying overland would havebeen traacked / picked up on radar civilian or other it seemed likely the plane was flying over the ocean, similar thing happened to an air France jet a few years ago

phones don't tend to work at the bottom of the ocean.

You remember it took us two years to get the black box for the air France plane off the cost of Brazil and we had a lot more info to go on there.

Believe it or not we don't really have that much radar coverage of the world. Heck if we wanted to monitor all this stuff we'd barely be able to use the radio as it would be full of woodpeckers

Phones work on GPRS phones only work if they are close enough to a phone mast unless they are sattelite phones which are hideously expensive and are only used by explorers in the desert or reporters in war zones. I have only ever seen one and don't know anyone that owns one. Satnavs which the yanks like to call GPS work on sattelite positioning. They don't make phone calls. While my satnav can pinpoint my exact whereabouts while I am lost in the middle of Norfolk, I won't be able to tell a soul until I get a signal on my phone

You seem be flip flop in all over for what you want most phones include a gps unit exactly the same as your Satnav but yes they don't use it for communication as it's purely passive.

Read bits on this and just glanced over the latest, so as I understand all the ways of tracking the plane were turned off?

When a plane goes down, it's usually down to the flight plan for rescue to find out where they went down, right? But there are other failsafes too, I'd imagine.

The plane doesn't take off until everything is checked and double checked, so it had to be turned off during the flight, which unless it was terrorists that knew those planes inside out (which makes no sense as why crash into the ocean rather than into some important and highly populated building?), then it could have been stopped by an EMP-capable weapon.

It's been recently noted that North Korea has now attained Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles, which would be capable of destroying whole countries with EMP capabilities. They'd fry all our electrics.

Why not test that on an ocean like we do with atomic bombs? Or even better, why not stage that and blame it on N Korea so we can finally overthrow the Kim Dynasty?!

It's looking very much like it did come down in the southern Indian Ocean.

Just an observation but the search area appears to be just to the east of what would have been an exact reverse heading of its course to Beijing. Given that the general current in the area runs from west to east, a spot 7 hours flying time down the reverse heading would be a good place to start looking for the main body of the plane. If it still exists as such.

The smart phone argument doesn't work. Put your phone in aeroplane mode (if you have an iPhone, android users do....something). Then go and try using the track my iPhone app. This demo Works even better if you live in the sticks. It'll probably tell you to within a mile or so where it is. Scale that up - your phone is now somewhere within half a mile of where you are sat and that's tiny, imagine the size of a 777 in comparison and scale that up. That part of the world has negligible radar coverage, so when the devices on board that transmit position information (transponder and ACARS) get turned off you're now relying on the aircraft being polled for information by anyone interested - and there's not a lot of interested people in the middle of the ocean. Short wave radio is pretty much the only thing that works with any degree of accuracy.

I know a few 777 pilots and other recognised industry experts, and there's been a lot of conjecture of late...but the only thing we know for sure is that it ain't still up there.

Full analysis of satellite data shows that the flight flew the southern corridor, the flight ended in a remote location of the Indian Ocean.
