Whatsapp technical query

Just a query to satisfy my curiosity as I am not exactly the world's most technology minded person!

I use whatsapp a lot to chat to friends, family etc...

I know it works off an Internet connection, whether mobile or wifi etc. .

But if I am connected to the internet, I can always see the status of someone: Online or last time online.

If someone is typing me a message, it says so...

So....earlier I was chatting on whatsapp but it said they were last online an hour previous but clearly they were sending me messages. However it didnt state 'typing message' in the tool bar. It still said last time seen online was an hour ago. Yet my friend was replying to my messages. They said it was because they werent comnected to wifi. They are in France at the moment so how does that work????

It doesn't normally do that it's playing up at the moment. I've been getting messages today and there last online time stamp still says yesterday.

So strange. It normally shows they are typing a message but even that was gone. I couldn't understand how whatsapp can work without internet connection

Did that but he said it was because he wasnt connected to wifi. His recent status shows now.

on here I think it's just for looking at profiles. I have someone on my Whatsapp who it doesn't show when he was last online. Another says a date last month but I've had a conversation with him a couple of times since then

I also didnt know its possible on FAB to not show last login...but be online anyway?

Even when someones profile was hidden...I could still see when they were last online!

Me neither...messages just appeared! Ping! But in context with our conversation. ...asking and answering questions in real time...

I dont stalk people. This was a private whatsapp chat and I was just asking a legitimate technical question. Thats all. This thread doesnt need to be made into something it isnt.

I dont stalk anyone!

Different chat facilities such as whatsapp, skype etc...have different services.

I chat to my friends and family on these when we see eachother online. That's the whole idea. So if someone hides then raises my suspicion.
