For squashing down into my friend's wheelie bin so that when he opens it to dump in a carrier bag full of rubbish, it springs out and scares the bejesus out of him.

You can do that after it's been (well) used. It's big, the tentacle width is about about 15cm near the head and trailing off to about 5cm for a length of about 30cm. It has a big happy smile.
