It may be just me, but as I go out more dressed in my female clothes, to service station coffee bars and shops, I feel more people are accepting and tolerant of cross dressers. Does anyone agree ?

Depends where you are I suppose. Most/many people would be accepting around Manchester City centre but not so sure if it would be the same in Burnley.

I think people now are far more accepting of people having the choice to wear what they like as long as its not exposing anything in public and why not.

I'm fully straight so indifferent.

It will always be TOLERATED but in society (in general/broad widebrush spectrum) it will never be ACCEPTED.

I used to be, I'll admit.

Theres a couple of open.TV types near me. I admit to having done a double take but I dont care if someone dresses up like an Oompaloompa, martian, traffic warden etc...its their choice. Not my cup o tea but I and more than you might think dont judge harshly...

The more society see's of cross dressers in normal everyday life the more acceptable they will become, I don't think its a case of tolerating, what's there to tolerate just cause some dresses different. Been to loads of inner city towns where there are more in _iew and they are accepted, people may stare but then people stare at others who have disabilities etc, just the way we are when we see something different. Don't really get why people would have an issue at all with it in modern day society. My opinion anyway.

Today I had the fortune of talking to a lady in the shop who was very accepting of me and was a great help in getting the things I needed and it was above and beyond the usual assistance to make a sale. It was so nice to be accepted

The more people do it the more it will become seen as 'normal' in eyes of the public/ignorant. Hats (or wigs!) off to the bravery of those who do to allow others to follow suit without the fear of persecution.

Personally it don't bother me I managed a gay bar for few months and saw many sights some bad some good lol but we should not judge what people do or how they live or what they wear

I used to be manager of a ladies wear shop and had special late night opening for tv/ts cross dressers. I used to have them in during normal working hours but female customers objected so I set aside evenings for just them, it was a compromise but not of my own making. I saw their money as good as anyone elses.

Increased acceptance/tolerance might in part be down to the policies being introduced in many work places now insisting on equality and diversity (quite rightly). It's common to see cross dressers in places like Brighton and very few people bat an eyelid but outside of cities it's a different story.

We saw one bearded guy in a womens suit (beautifully cut, gorgeous t fabric) & people were openly staring and mocking, in my eyes they were the ones who looked silly, but this was Tunbridge Wells and I suppose they were all disgusted.

For me no. If I had a young daughter I would hesitate not because I think cds are child molesters but because someone with bad intent could cross dress to gain access to a ladies loo.

In France men and women use the same public toilets quite often.

no it is not simply because someone wears a dress if someone has a cock its a bloke so no right to be in womens loo.

to balance this out a bit there are few openly cd etc locally and good look to anyone a while a go some arseholes were taking piss out of a tv to be honest i get confused with differenence between cd and tv. I gave the lads an earful and to fair they apologised.

I think you're right, deep down nobody really cares, except a few very uptight people. I see two cross dressers in the area I work on a regular basis, and without wishing to be too unkind, they are very unfeminine and just look like blokes badly dressed up on a stag do, so it always tends to make you look twice, but a nano second later I forget about it, and I think most people are the same.

In the interest of balance and fairness, there is a strong possibility that when those cross dressers walk past me they think 'what a badly dressed,short,fat,ugly fucker'

When I was in my teens there was a tv/ts who was always in town , nobody even looked twice, so maybe it's the area or maybe we were just ahead of the times lol (we're talking 25 years ago ) it's never been a issue for me, I dot think I've ever judged people by their appearance

no it is not simply because someone wears a dress if someone has a cock its a bloke so no right to be in womens loo.

A CD and a TV are the same thing ad they both only refer to clothes.

TS is different and they are legally recognised as their transitioned gender not thier birth sex

i think there is a massive difference in public perception.

as has been said, TV and CD are completely different animals.

the guys that go out, looking like guys, but wearing womens clothing, will always be subject to derision, especially from older generations, or people drinking/that have no social behaviour protocol.

men that live as women, however, and do their make up/spend time over their appearence, i find are becoming a lot more tolerated by people, and that can only be a good thing.

V generally doesnt like men that wear womens clothing/underwear, or clothing, just not her thing, yet, when we met tina at a social, she was quite taken by her, and has changed her opinion of these kind of things.

I think a lot depends on how you look and the amount of effort put into it.

If you are dressed inappropriately, ie, pvc thigh length boots in Subway, then you would get a few looks. Unless it was a subway late at night and people thought you were looking for business.

If it is obvious you are serious and have put a lot of thought into it, people tend to be a lot more accepting.

I'm in London so it doesn't really come up as an issue day to day. People just get on.

Someone in a group I am involved with has begun to dress full time as the beginning to transition permanently.

Last year I met a teenager who had been thrown out by her parents as she wanted to transition to a male. A very brave young woman becoming a rather interesting and courageous young man.

When more people present living different lifestyles people get used to it and as they meet people attitudes start to change(Hercules' tale of Venus meeting Tina, for instance).

Apparently people are much more comfortable when a tv is 'convincing'. Not so happy when the tv is wearing a dress, full make up and has a beard.

I think there's still a long way to go.

My mate wears a dress, full make up and a beard and I would be happy to go anywhere with him. (No need for anyone to jump down my throat- he identifies as 'he', not 'she'. )
