Oil Leak.

Expect pretrol prices to rise soon. The oil rig catastrophe is far far worse than feared. When the rig sank it ripped off the pipes connecting it to the sea bed, which are located 5,000 feet below the surface and we have no technology to go down and fix it. What that means is that there is now a continual hole in the earth's crust all the way down to the oil reservoir that can't be plugged and will spew millions of barrels of oil until it's all out. This is going to get worse and worse and worse.

They sent a robot sub down to fix the problem but it didn't work.

BP reckon 5000 barrels a day being pumped into the gulf of Mexico..they say they'll accept help from anyone and have asked US military and other agencies for help in containing the leak as they may have technologies more superior to those available in private sector.

They hope to start drilling a relief well to ease the pressure, but this could take some time to complete

a real disaster

Well let's hope BP dive into their huge pool of profits to pay for the clean up and not pass it on to us. I bet they fookin don't though.

costs expected to top a billion

crude prices rising....but just now that is more to do with the weakening of the dollar against Euro which makes oil an attractive proposition

latest thinking is that the leak in the gulf of mexico will have a limited impact....but will wait and see

Oil prices rise if someone farts in the antarctic, so I cant see this disaster not giving them an excuse to bleed yet more cash out of us.

I am surprised to hear that then

I saw a documentry about oil rigs a while ago and they seemed pretty clued up in all honesty

I hope they fix it soon then

Pity they can't skim or syphon it off the surface in some way and get it into barrels.

they're skimming it...using dispersal agents and burning in situ.....just heard on news the military now helping out...and that deep sea robots are working on the pipeline...but they reckon it's gonna take at least a few weeks to sort out

It's leaking 5,000 gallons per day. The Exxon Valdez disaster spilled 11m gallons into the ocean and only 25% of the local marine life survived it.

No technolgy to fix it.Bollocks. So how did they install it in the 1st place. If they can get down there to connect it all together, then they can go back down and repair it. simples.

No technolgy to fix it.Bollocks. So how did they install it in the 1st place. If they can get down there to connect it all together, then they can go back down and repair it. simples."

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. This was on the news. The valve connected to the sea floor has some sort of BOP on it (????) which enables the valve to be closed in events like this, but it isn't working or can't be enabled using the remote sub.

All of a sudden there is an explosion off the coast of the US and crude prices are expected to rise......
