Ok really in need of some advise from you lovely lot!

My 10 yr old came home from school today to tell me that she's worried about one of her friends.

She said she told her that she rang child line last night as her parents have been hitting her, putting her in her room for no reason and taking away all her things.

I asked my daughter if she had been punished for something.

She said she didn't even know what she had done wrong

Now the child in question is a model student.. ( I only know this as the teacher said she has sat my daughter next to her in class to see if it will rub on her haha ) she's quite a shy girl and never in trouble at school!

I'm not sure what to do as she has made my daughter promise not to tell anyone. I wasn't sure wether to just mention it to school maybe?

Sorry for the long story.. Any suggestions I'd be grateful for. x

Report it to the school....they have polices and procedures in place to deal with this kind of thing...

I'd ring social services. They won't pass on any of your details and will be able to make enquiries into the family and also through the school. They won't go in "all guns blazing" and are usually very discrete.

-you won't receive any feedback from them about what happens, but your mind will be clear

As cheeky said.

My daughter was in a similar situation and went to the head teacher. He was aware of some of the issues concerning the child and was grateful to my daughter for being concerned enough to go to him.

be careful going to play devils advocate here, always 2 sides to every story, child could be in trouble at home with not doing home work, not coming home on time, just generally being a bratt, back answering but just saying she has done nothing.Just because she is the model student at school does not mean she is at home.

Child line will sort it out one way or another. They will follow it up.

"Report it to the school....they have polices and procedures in place to deal with this kind of thing... "

this they will note down what you have said and put something confidential on file. They wont contact anyone straight away (authorities, parents etc) but they will monitor for things like behavioural changes, bruising, work slipping etc and take it from there x

Thankyou... My daughter would never speak to me again if she thought I'd told the school.. They wouldn't ask my daughter anything would they?

Obviously the safety of the other child is paramount... Just don't want to break the trust I have with my daughter. X

Better to side on the air of caution than not at all...plus child line would of only given advice...the child does not have to give details

If there is violence being perpetrated against a child the police should be informed.

Maybe consider told you so that as the adult you could do something about it....I do think you need to speak to the school....it will be confidential and certainly would not drag your daughter into it

I think I'll just mention it to school. I couldn't live with myself if something did happen and I said nothing... I did think it was strange that she said it was for no reason.. But I was treated so bad as a child and I did nothing to provoke it...so sad either way that she has said this about her parents
