IF and I IF the Malaysian Jet was deliberately diverted and hijacked as is being reported .... how did the hijackers manage to get 239 people's mobile phones from them without anyone managing to send a message to a loved one describing the situation? .... has anyone else had this thought? or can possibly raise a sensible insightful thought into this?

I don't believe one person could collect 239 people's mobile phones without causing some anxiety or distress to the people on board the plane, therefore at least one person (although I believe many more) would have managed to send out a message describing the situation

I might have a half sensible answer .. but not sure if technology is capable of this ... - if all the comms technology is turned off on the plane would this in effect disable all mobile signals? thus no message to anyone? its a thought now sure how possible it is?

this. plus the altitude. you can only get a signal below a certain altitude and this plane was well above that when it vanished. also, i think the events of 9/11 have given us an expectation that phone calls or texts would happen. frankly, that was a one off. normally, communication is completely cut rather than forced as it was in that situation.

I am not arguing with anything written here and not being deliberately controversial but ... hasn't it been reported that the plane flew for a few hours at a very low altitude to avoid detection on radars?

It probably went higher for that particular reason, until all mobiles etc had been taken or made safe

didn't that occurs in the first instance with the passengers on that Greek plane? They were all rendered unconscious but were all still in their seats when found.

to use a phone in a plane it has to be fitted with transponders very few have them fitted as yet and the gps needs to see the satellites to make contact, not possible from inside the plane

yep I am understanding where you are coming from but .... there has not been any debris indicating that the plane blew up or crashed so far ... at this precise moment in time - it is a missing plane

just as there is no debris though....there is noone meaning demands for the release of hostages indicating a hijacking.

its an unusual situation.

planned have in the past actually made interact water landings. if this happened the plane sunk intact and quite possibly no debris will show up and any survivors won't be easily found.

at this stage many things could possibly have happened.

There have been numerous psychological studies which show people will do as they're told when given instructions by an authority figure, even when they're uncomfortable with what's being asked of them.

Those who know their own mind can easily be persuaded by the actions of the rest of the group to conform.

So getting over 200 people to hand their phones over really wouldn't be that difficult!

yep it's a total mystery ... I guess it also depends how long it flew for after it was last pinpointed as a short flight would possibly have made an oil slick had it gone down and not broken up in the sea

the chinese wearing masks has nothing to do with fumes most wear them to stop the spread of colds,or flu as the light face mask will not stop fumes

in a sudden decompression the oxygen masks dont just flop down for the pilots ... they have to reach out and locate them in the cabin .. so maybe the crew were virtually instantaneously unconcious at the controls ... the plane then flew itself intact til it ran out of fuel and fell from the sky on its last heading

The fact that ACARS was turned off and then several minutes later the transponder was turned off, after signing off from Malaysia air traffic, all points to deliberate action, not sudden catastrophe. This was apparent as soon as it was reported around wednesday this week.

It is highly possible the passengers knew nothing about it for a good while as the inflight map display could have been turned off too.

Height and lack of mobile coverage could easily explain why no calls/txts were made, along with a controlled search and collection of mobiles from passengers once the flightdeck was fully secured. The reports of phones ringing is a red herring as many mobile operators give a ring tone before going to voicemail.

You can buy a mobile phone blocker for around £30. It will knock out all the phones in a concert hall and they are used throughout Europe for this purpose, though banned in the UK.

Any or all of the above would account for the reported facts thus far.

Obviously, we only know what the authorities are releasing to the press. I doubt very much that they are releasing all the info gleaned thus far, in case it compromises any lines of investigation.

My own view at this time, is that it may have all gone horribly wrong, and that the plane has crashed, or it was planned to end that way.

If it was a terrorist type hijack, with a successful landing at some remote or improvised airstrip, then by now they would have moved all the hostages and split them up, and possibly made an announcement, or opened channels of communication (this may have happened and negotiations may be taking place). If it was some lone wolf type hijack, it may be that it was intended to end in martyrdom, but I would have expected that to have been visible and public.

I'm starting to think that the plane has probably crashed, either by trying to land at a dodgy airstrip, or by premature detonation of explosives mid flight, after dropping off the radar.

This is just supposition on my part, and like everyone else, we can do nothing more than wait for further information

I read something yesterday about the family of one of the pilots that moved out of their house the day before the plane disappeared. Haven't seen anything else about that.

If the pilots were both set on flying elsewhere, no-one on the plane needed to know. If it just kept flying they would all assume everything was ok.
