could not agree more. I always fail to understand, why such a big thing is made of St Patricks day(which we all know is Irish)yet we make no fuss about St Georges Day..Granted a pint of guiness and a bushmills chaser is more exciting than Morris dancers. I think we are all scared to be patriotic in England,as if you are the PC brigade brand you as racist and a paid up member of the EDL.....

"It's not St Patrick's Day until tomorrow."

Glad someone said it. I thought I was going mad.

Is there much of a fuss about St David's Day and St Andrew's or is it just St Patrick's and St George's that get a fanfare?

You've answered your own question. St Patrick's has a brand of alcohol linked to it, so someone has a vested interest in its promotion.

Never understood the fascination people in England have with St George, seeing as he was born in Palestine.

I suppose it's that the George and the dragon myth is lodged deep in the English psyche, with the dragon representing anything that isn't English.

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds)

Ask many an English Man when st georges day is and they can t tell you, ask an Irish man scot or Welshman when their saints day is and they ll know, so as much as we English complain that we celebrate another saint s day do something on st georges day help to make it happen

I ll raise a glass and I m happy to celebrate along with the other nations,,

I always make a point of celebrating St Georges Day - he's perfect for a multicultural Britain.

well said. I lived over the border for five years and it was never mentioned let alone celebrated. I celebrate St. David's day every year!

Fuss?? St David's Day is celebrated as is St. Patrick's day. I don't call that making a fuss though!

We have a St George's day parade in my town. Went past my house last year. It's not the Irish fault that English people can't be arsed to do something special. I have Welsh and Scottish grandparents who originated from Ireland,I only go to the pub on St Patrick's day because it's a great night out and my brother in law is Irish

I have to think twice then.... I was about to start drinking then...

I shall make my normal "st patricks day" advance apologies for anything I may post tomorrow due to the amount of alcohol that will be in my system.....
