there is nothing wrong with a healthy debate, its the trolls that make a storm.

I ask this question, as I find that my brother is judged far too much and told it is a sick 'choice' to be gay.

You can NEVER choose to be gay.

Returns with a ruddy great printer, sweating a tad and swearing profusely and wondering which fool bought a cheap old cast iron printer, manufactured in the People's Democratic Republic of Wallachia. Sets it on the table, gives the printer one last, lingering, dirty look and pops back out to the TitzMobile

Maybe if the lived in a differant country like Russia or Saudi Arabia they would be. Even in the US gay people are frowned upon..

Most gay people in the uk are lucky to live here, but you still hear of people who's parents have disowned them just because they are gay and god help them if their parents are strict Muslim's

What a strange question.

Do you choose your height?

Do you choose your eye colour?

You are what you are, you can change the surface image, you can dye your hair, wear contacts pretend you are something you are not. But ultimately you are what you are.

Accept it, live with it, live the day cos we aint here for long enough to spend it fooling ourselves.

Recent research shows you are more likely to be ridiculed and given abuse if you come out as bi-sexual.

Bi-sexual people are more likely to become depressed and attempt suicide then there gay counterparts.

I still say no.

But... so what if it was a choice? Why shouldn't a consenting adult make that choice?

The question of whether it's a choice should be irrelevant. What happens between consenting adults is their business.

Re-reading my answer comes across as a bit uppity, if so im sorry, didnt mean it to be.

Its just that i think you are what you are, your sexual orientation is part of you, and is influenced by your experiences as well, but mostly its how you accept what you are. Many people probably have bi-sexual or fantasies (outside of vanilla) but they supress them in order to conform to the norm.

From experience I strongly believe that the great majority of people have sexual fantasies varying from full BDSM to bisexuality and so on but suppress these urges through a variety of reasons, mostly down to a victorian prudishness common to this nation.

I am totally straight and if im honest think its disgusting that a man would want to have sex with another bloke.

But i think gays are born like it so its not their fault they are like that.

In this day and age its up too each individual what they get up too as long as they do it without the whole world knowing .

Sorry, that I disagree with. We all have strengths and weaknesses. We're not all born equal.

In terms of race, skin colour, eye colour, sexuality, gender etc. etc. we should all be equal.

However some people have a greater aptitude for academic study than others. They are better than others in an academic environment. Not better people, just more capable. Some people are more accomplished than others at sport. Others can entertain, or act...

This "we are all equal" line is causing a knee jerk thing of trying to eradicate competition in schools. Rather than identifying, encouraging and celebrating each person's strengths, we're trying to pretend we're all the same.

We're equally valuable as people, or should be so regarded, but we do all have different aptitudes, weaknesses and limitations. We shouldn't try to pretend otherwise.

Being equal in terms of rights and respect is different to being the same sort of person.

Everyone must be treated equally from the outset and only once their strengths and weaknesses are explored can they be treated differently to anyone else.

For instance, 2 people of different race walk towards you and say hello. You respond equally to them and strike up a conversation. You all get on welk and head to the pub. Whereupon you learn that one person won the Nobel Peace Prize for resolving the conflict in Kosovo in the 90s by putting his life on the line to save people. The other person has just come out of jail for robbing a pensioner in their home and bopping them on the head.

Now there is a chance you will treat them differently. The fact one had one colour of skin and the other had a different colour meant they started equally in your eyes. They suddenly became unequal when you learned one had done something tremendous and the other something dreadful. That is what you may judge someone on. Not their physical or mental attributes. But their actions.

I don't think my post disagreed with those sentiments.

However, sometimes the "we are all equal" banner is misunderstood, misapplied and does more harm than good. The easiest way to ensure nobody achieves more than anyone else is to ensure nobody achieves anything.

That's not good for humanity or society.

Ok. I'm not picking an argument though, just commenting on what happens when you mix political correctness and the "we are all equal" banner.

Some people can take what should be a basic, fundamental concept (equality) and turn it into something ridiculous (we all have to be the same).

how am I wrong and what does being born on the same day have anything to do with it. It simply makes them think that they never chose to be straight and there for I never chose to be gay.

"Agreed. I was trying to sum up in a positive way without picking an argument with anyone.

Ok. I'm not picking an argument though, just commenting on what happens when you mix political correctness and the "we are all equal" banner.

Some people can take what should be a basic, fundamental concept (equality) and turn it into something ridiculous (we all have to be the same)."

we dont all have to be the same. The world would be damn boring it it did. Think it was taken a little out of context what I said, or read too much into.

"Whenever a straight person asks me when or why did I choose to become gay I simply ask them when did they choose to be straight, always answers their question.

"

Since pedantry is the norm here, I am duty bound to disagree and argue here. Unless you were concieved and born on the same day as the person who asked the question.

I was being silly. You said that the answer to when they became straight was the same as when you became gay. But if you are born straight/gay, you must obtain that during gestation in the womb. Thus it is not likely that your sexuality was defined at precisely the same time as each other.

It was just a bit of fun. I regret it now.

I wasn't suggesting that you think "we're all equal" means we all have to be the same.

I was pointing out that some people/organisations have taken it this way. Non-competitive sports days and no winners or losers in anything to ensure nobody is better than anyone else is misunderstanding what equality means.

there is nothing wrong with a healthy debate, its the trolls that make a storm.

I don't understand why you have asked this question when you, rightly say, being gay isn't a choice. Of course it isn't so why bring up the subject when it can give the homophobes a good excuse to get on their soap boxes or start offending homosexuals left right with their ridiculous ideas.

I also don't believe it is down to genetics. Genes determine things like hair colour or likelihood of developing diseases like cancer ie you inherited a faulty gene. Being gay isn't inherited if it were you would be very unlikely to have been born!!

There are various fatal genetic diseases which would suggest your last statement is untrue.

Faulty genes do not have to be inherited either. Mutations can occur.

Point was it was intentionally incorrect - with the knowledge that someone would be inclined to show how clever they are by informing everyone they knew it should be clique.

Point to be proven is how quickly people jump in to prove how clever they are.

"Is being Gay a choice?

No I don't think it's a choice to be gay. Or any of the shades between gay and straight.

However people do choose who they have sex with. For instance some people choose to play with same sex and different sex partners even though they aren't really attracted to them.

why would being gay get you sex every night? Plenty straight people get it every night! Myself being bi has more chances of getting it every night as I have 2 sexes to choose from! .

Cos their gay n bi guys flat out on here. And seem to up for all meets. Where as a single straight guy like me wudnt get the same attention lol

Not all gay and bi men are up for all or any meet on here.

My brother has never been promiscuous and only been with one gay lad and is now engaged to be married to him. Been together nearly 6 years.

fair enough im not trying to the rock the boat here all im sayin is that I wud nearly get more messages from guys looking to meet than woman ."

Being almost exclusively interested in the same sex, gay, is I think no choice, but something likely that one is born with. It could be a mix of genetics, with some environmental influence. There may also be 50 shades of gay, so that there are different types of it, or causes, albeit with the similar result of needing same sex interaction. Genetics is an interesting complex aspect of life, frequently not relying on just one gene for a personal characteristic, and often using some environmental experience before something is activated. Sexuality is varied, as are people generally.

Please try not to get angry but I have never read such bollocks.

No one actually picked up on your use of the word click. All that happened is the person who managed to decipher what could be forgiven as being seen as a random collection of words used the word but used the correct spelling. I fail entirely to see why they are being criticised and sarcy comments being made?

Should they continue to spell the word click as opposed to clique to avoid your opprobrium?

Given the number of typos made in this forum, if the first spelling of any word in a thread were to be used and be sacrosanct throughout the remainder of the thread, all hell would break loose.

You simply are/were trying to pick a fight. That's not cool.

"Hardly surprising it was questioned, since it is incorrect

A lot of incorrect things are written on here every day. Quite a lot of them are questioned.

I'm failing to see what point is supposed to be being proven here.

just to stir waters a little. Get me fiesty, pissed off, or trolled out! Who knows but the vino being d*unk?

Point was it was intentionally incorrect - with the knowledge that someone would be inclined to show how clever they are by informing everyone they knew it should be clique.

Point to be proven is how quickly people jump in to prove how clever they are.

Not looking to stir the waters - but to be called a troll! - not nice

That's not cool."

"No.. do you really think that people would choose to be ridiculed and looked down on like they were unnatural or dirty?

"

Why on earth would people be ridiculed and looked down on for being gay in todays society. I have gay relatives and don't think any differently of them now than I did before they came out. I don't believe it is a choice. They are who they are and we are all atttracted to different types. xx

"That's if we are defining GAY as someone who has sex with the same sex. "

Who you have sex with as a swinger has no definite bearing on your sexuality.

I (Andy) am straight because I am not romantically or sexually attracted to men, but when swinging I enjoy playing with whatever and whoever is nearby. Men included.

Gay people are romantically and/or sexually attracted to the same gender. Putting your penis in a man does not necessarily make you gay. It may make you a swinger though

I agree with you but most people will say you are bi. They don't get the fact you never look at a guy and think 'wow he hot' or the fact you never fancied a bloke etc etc.

I think being gay is hotwired in your dna

Being bi is something that's discovered and explored.

Don't really need labels, just be who you are and have fun

I would agree with the bi thing not so sure you are straight if you have your penis inside another man.Not that there is anything wrong with it like somebody said its just a label.

I think some people maybe in later life decide to turn gay,my colleague is gay and in his forties he has always preferred men.But the person who he now has a civil partnership with has an ex wife and a couple of kids. And he said to me that when he got married to his wife he genuinley loved her but that when in his forties something changed and he started liking men.

I don't think being gay is a choice, the same as being straight, it's who you are and what you're naturally attracted to...I do think being bi is a choice though to some extent...you have a choice of whether or not you act upon the curiosity...I've fancied woman and been curious since I was 14 but never had the balls to do anything about it til just over a year ago, had I not been through shit in my personal life and not had the guts to act upon the curiosity I would've still been straight...if that makes sense! It does to me haha! Just so happens I am absolutely delighted that I did and find women more attractive and sexually appealing than men!
