charity begins at home

So today I've had 2different lots of people knocking on my door asking me for money for their charity(to set up a direct debit) I don't think it's right that people knock on doors and hate it when a tin is rattled in my face when I'm out.if I want to give money I will, don't pester me. What do you think?

annoys us too, wouldnt mind so much if it was animal charities not that i could afford to give much, certainly not a direct debit, what a cheek.

we usualy pretend we arent in, just dont answer the door or say no thank you, unless its the lady who lives down our road then we feel we have too.

I find it invasive when someone knocks on my door wanting a donation to some cause or other. I feel like passing them something huge and bulky and of no use to myself, such as the old portable telly from Spare Oom and telling them they can take that.

Our road is a no cold calling zone so we don't get too many people knocking on the door

Our high street is full from one end to the other with people trying to stop you and make you give money to charity,it pisses me off as firstly it ruins my shopping experience (apart from the time sponge bob square pants chased me up the high st,I found that quite amusing) and secondly I do my little bit for a charity I chose last yr and I can't help everyone in the world that needs it

I dont understand the logic in only giving to animal charities...

what about the starving dying abuses children with not even a glass of water to drink?

Totally agree , it's wrong .

It's our choice as to what and if we give to charity , and pestering should be banned .

As for the lowlife scum that bombard what few folk still use the high street .... As _nny says ... Tell them to fuck right off

Charity who have collection tin on our counter, now want us to empty it count it and bloody bank it for them now to save them admin cost, nothing like taken the piss, so a quick call to tell them to collect their tin problem solved

I generally dislike them at the door however i do make an exception for those collecting for Children's charities.

you have a Spare Oom!? You are very lucky some people don't even have one Oom may I ask you to consider signing a direct debit for just two pounds per month, yes, just two pounds! so that one day every one will have an Oom to call their own

No I don't like people asking me to give to charity but I understand why charities have to ask.

I also don't think that people doing their job- any job- deserve to abused by the General Public.

I work in the third sector and depair at the "sales" staff some charities employ to chug for them. I went for a walk this afternoon in our local shopping centre and to be met by two gentlemen "selling" their deaf chhildrens charity, i asked could either sign...met with a shrug they also both had moustaches and beards, harldy best practice in working with people with a hearing loss. too many just employ peole with no kknwoeldge of the group they are pertaing to repseresent and the local face to face groups then miss out.

Most colections need to be licensed so a call to the local authority if anyone group os found to be being nawty can see their ability to obtain other licenses reduced if people feel they are being overly agressive in the approach, if someone cant vary off their script walk away they should not be in that job.

The reality is most people who give to charity were asked. People fall into two groups: those that do and those that don't. People don't walk around with neon signs stating what group they belong to or if they're open to giving so charities have to reach out. If they don't ask, they don't get.

It's called fundraising. Chill out!
