The value of a compliment

Think its fair to say with a website such as this there is a lot of verbal seduction that takes place and for a lot of people its all taken with a pinch of salt and not too seriously.

Are there compliments and words used that you perhaps value more from people you actually know and who understand you, rather than from people who are typing from behind a keyboard?

To use myself as an example, id prefer to be called 'Beautiful' over 'Gorgeous'

Being called gorgeous by someone who had got to know me well was the nicest compliment I've ever received. It brought tears to my eyes because it was genuine.

Beautiful or gorgeous, you have fantastic eyes, either way.

On here, I'm fairly easy. I'd rather be praised for how I look, than my figure, though. One is easy, the other is harder. Being praised for being out and about is nice, too. The particular words used matter less.

For it to mean something you have to get to know them. A compliment from someone who you know and who you know means it can be very moving.

What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. (I didn't write that myself btw).

I agree Tina. The words chosen are less important than the person saying them and the sentiment behind them.

When you get called gorgeous, stunning and beautiful all the time it's difficult to know who is being sincere. I've had people say to me,in person, you have a pretty face, including women. I tend to believe those people as they are either already in bed with me or aren't trying to get into bed with me

As a gentleman (please read the definition), I will reply to all messages and introduce myself to anyone that views my profile, as long as they meet my stated criteria.

In response to you'r question; yes.

A compliment from a friend or colleague, whom you know and share a spatial and frequent contact with, always tops an online reply from someone that you have never met.

That's why I tip in restaurants, if the service has been attentive but not intrusive; always say 'thank you' after an interaction, and always begin my complaint letters 'Without Prejudice'.

mostly all compliments about someones appearance on here are only said in order to get a bit closer to getting into someones nickers or pants, like the saying goes "flattery will get you everywhere" more fool the person who believes it

I don't take compliments seriously on here and never will, unless they know me in person

sounds strange but why should i believe what someone is saying to me when he/she is saying it to others too

I don't take compliments well because I never believe there sincerity but twice now, in person, people have said how my photos on here don't do me any justice. It was lovely to hear and I believed it as it felt honest.

Hope it was.

I don't take components well at all although my self confidence is improving. I'll sort of accept them from people who know me and if I feel they're sincerely meant. I always take the Hi beautiful / Sexy / Gorgeous ones I get on here with a tonne of salt. Lets face it, how can they tell that from a picture of my legs

A compliment from someone you know who is sincere is always worth more, and of course some words are better than others!

Having said that, if someone messages me hoping to get to meet and says they love my pics, I still take that as a compliment and receive with good grace!

On here, strangely my favourite compliments are about my profile and the ones from straight females with no hidden agenda and from the guys that have already got into my knickers.

In everyday life I love all kinds of compliments

if someone says i look nice thats good enough for me, if they say i look beautiful then they are bullshiting me because not that many women are beautiful, attractive or pretty maybe.

if its someone thats not trying to get into my frillies then i take it graciously and thank them

if it is someone trying to get in my frillies i take it graciously, thank them and understand it is to them a means to an end and if i like the idea of getting to that end too then what the hey surely there is a half truth to it cause who seriously wants to get to that end point with someone they don't find attractive?

I take no notice of compliments on here, all bluff and bullshit

When someone I know says something nice it can make me glow and it will also make me think too,not all compliments have to be about looks and as those compliments are 10 a penny on here I tend to take no notice of those type away from here

This is why its always hard to compliment someone on here....a lot if folk are very jaded and youll send someone a compliment and mean it but in the back of your mind you'll just know they're thinking your just trying to weasel your way into bed with them....

But then if you don't say anything nice about them what does that say about you? Your damned if you do or damned I'd you don't really and I think that's a little bit sad

I've come to the conclusion that if I want to compliment someone I will and its their choice to believe it or not....I won't curb my thoughts regarding people just to worry if they're reading it with jaded hearts....ill say what's on my mind and let the chips fall where they may

I tend to be very sparing in my compliments on here, as I'm well aware of just how freely they get bandied about - those who DO receive praise from me on the other hand, can be sure that its genuine.

If I get a compliment I accept it, why would someone be talking to me if they had to lie to me about finding me pig ugly....I think there are so many nice honest folk on here its a shame to become jaded by the few who reckon themselves as wordsmiths that can just weave a few sentances together and win you over....

It's quite a negative way of thinking that everyone is just running about on here lying about how what they think of you just to get their rocks off.

Let's become a little more savvy...most folk on here are reasonably intelligent worldly wise people and should be able to tell the bullshitters from the nice folk so let's not let the few spoil it for the rest eh? Take the compliments and the positivity because really, isn't everyone beautiful to someone?

I would rather a compliment about who I am and how I come across rather than physical appearance. You cant control the way you look (well you can to some degree but you get what I mean) but the person you are is a product of your life's work.

I like compliments they make me smile, I tend to get more in here referring to my humour and manners, the ones that mean most to me are about what a good job I've done bringing up my children.

i'm not sure i could call someone beautiful from just looking at their avatar pic .. that seems to be a much more personal compliment only to be given in person when actually face to face
