Over the rainbow, under the bridge

"What are people's views x"

A very good friend of mine emigrated to Brisbane 6 years ago. She loves it but she did say that it's not as easy as it seems. Her and her husband have had to work extremely hard and have had quite a struggle. A number of her friends there returned to England as they found it too difficult.

But she has never regretted her decision. I've visited her a number of times but I've never been tempted. I love living here.

Do your research before you decide and if possible go over for a month to see how it goes. I'd recommend during the hottest part of the year. If you can't handle a month of that then living there may be too much.

Look into it now , do you have a skill , because if you don't then no luck ! Am a carpenter and I just got back from doing 2 years out there one it's amazing !!!! I couldn't stop traveling !!! And 2 you have jump threw soo many hoops to even get asked to stay there ! Like I am now back in the uk and hatting it , so I gotta get another skill because I couldn't find a Spencer as a carpenter so I think am going be a chef but what ever skill it is it has to be 2 years plus and you have show you can do it in a test it cost you about 10000 English or more just to get the paper work and rest done in Australia but trust me it's worth that and more !!! Enjoy and just go on a hoilday and if your under 25 go on a hoilday visa you can do one year the. Have work in country for a month ten get another year free ! Good luck and enjoy !

Oz isn't like it used to be when anyone could emigrate live near the beach and enjoy that Oz lifestyle they all dream about.

People struggle finacially here and there but there they do it with warm sunshine.

Northern NSW just below Qld has to be one of the best areas to live in Oz if you can find employment.

Pros: the weather (depending on where you live), the beaches, the beauty, the diverse range of fresh food, low tax and the laidback attitude.

Cons: the bugs, the sweltering temperatures, difficulty achieving employment and entering into higher education.

Programmes like 'Wanted Down Under' show a glamorous view of immigrating to Australia. Living in another country is a lot different than being on holiday there: you still have to work hard as in the UK and the NHS is much better than the Australian Medicare system. So, if you're young, fit and healthy, go for it.

Being a former Brisbanite, I recall the Goldcoast/Surfers Paradine before it became another 'Miami' - it was a lovely 'one horse' beach town. Byron Bay (might just see Paul Hogan there!) or Noosa are much better!

Now they're starting to question the decision to protect them because now the big salties are adapting to fresh water & being found hundreds of miles upstream in tourist swim holes ...................nice one Bruce!!!

"Can you please elaborate."

Not much to elaborate on! When the recession started here (and globally) Australia looked impervious to it but a few years ago it finally caught up with them and I heard it hit pretty hard and jobs became far more scarce and precious.

That would be my main concern when moving so far - being able to keep an income.

They showed there first gdp deficit for decade a couple of years back, then a couple of weeks later I read that they agreed to sell uranium to India; I guess that was the balancer!!!

They've such a vast amount of resources for so few people; - they're always going to be far, far richer than us!

Bloody Ozzie's!!

My brother has lived there for 15 years and has been bitten several times just doing some gardening. On one occasion he nearly died because he'd only used his snake kit a few days before and hadn't yet replaced it. I wouldn't live there.

Looks like there's been a bit of a bantering between the Ossies and the kiwis. No one's mentioned all the sheep in NZ.

It was the huntsman spiders and the cockroaches (and I don't mean the NSW football team!) rather than the snakes that I didn't like.

Redbacks can be deadly, lol

The sea snakes up in the far north are the most deadly on the planet plus the box jellyfish & then worst of all ((((((((drum roll)))))))
