Well she's had quite a lot of shit to deal with in the past year, and then the worst thing was being made redundant this week .

I'm trying to keep her upbeat, because I love her to her bones, but she's on a real downer , can't get to gym as much as she used to, no car, thinks she's failed!!!!

Believe me,,she's an amazizing,sexy,unselfish,giving woman, and I'd like others to reinforce this, so she knows how I feel and what others think.

Why not go for long walks together in the fresh air and enjoy all that there is to be seen and enjoyed?

keep doing things sitting round the house not doing anything really makes depressio nworse. just keep active with anything and keep a routine the more you slide into doing nothing the harder it is to climb out of

If her job was an integral part of her life and it really made her happy she needs to focus all her energy on getting a new job.

I know exactly what she is going through as I have been there myself.

Once she accomplishes the mission of being employed again her sense of self worth will return and everything else will fall into place.

Telling her she's beautiful might not make a difference to how she feels inside. Keep positive for her, tell her everything will be ok and things will get better. There is a light at the end of the tunnel even if it seems miles away. With you to help her towards it she has a better chance of getting there sooner. Be her ray of sunshine

Redundancy is shit - I have had 3 in my working life - but it is not personal although it feels like it. Encourage her to prepare her personal advertisement for a new job - her CV. go for it girl!

Tell her my story and hopefully it will give her some hope! A year ago yesterday in fact I sat at my redundancy appeal meeting and was told my appeal had not been successful! The night before my appeal meeting I had found out the love of my life had been cheating on me for 5 months and the morning of my appeal he left! I could not have been in a worse place emotionally! The last year has been a hard one, but I have turned to self employed work and I earn more now than I did employed, its also good having the choice about when you work. Also in the last year I took my employer to tribunal and he settled out of court with me. It was an unfair redundancy. But he was an asshole and I am much happier in my working life now. Hopefully one day my heart will mend too, the last year would have been so much easier if I had had a supportive partner by myside. With you there with her it will get easier and hopefully she will be able to look back in a years time with a new job and be a lot happier!

i have been where she is now, and its not a good place.

she, however, has something i never did, a loving partner that cares.

mine just went off with someone when i was at my lowest.

the problem is, your self esteem is linked with how useful you see yourself, and as she isnt doing what she normally would, and sees herself as not contributing anything to the relationship, it will be pretty low, if not right on the floor.

all you can do is keep telling her how important she is to you, how much you love her, and make sure everything you do revolves around her, so she feels important and useful to you.

im sure she is everything you say and much much more.

i hope you both work through everything together and come out the other side better, stronger and much more in love than you previously were.

give her our love (and stay strong yourself)

As we have never met, me saying nice things is meaningless and won't help.

BUT she did not lose her job, the company she worked for failed to make enough money to make a job she could fill. So this is an excellent time to look for a better company to work for.

It's also spring so great time to be off work and get the house and garden sorted so both can be more enjoyable in the summer months whilst looking at where she wants life to go in the future.

TBH if redundancy is the worst of the problems then you are doing OK compared to many.

I think give her another week- I felt as though the rug had been pulled out from underneath me & financially vulnerable. Suppose I went through a mini grieving process- cried, blamed people, disbelief. But after a week or so I realised the rest of my life wasn't falling apart- brushed myself off, updated my cv & actually ended up with a much better job!! Sometimes it takes the end of something act as a catalyst for something new.

Agree with above as well- a supportive partner during trying times is a god send but you don't have to fix everything, just be there for her.
