Thats cute!

I feel a bit backwards with my daughter learning to read.. she only knows 'a b c' and still cant grasp the sounds/phonics

She memorizes words, (i bought flash cards of the basic 100 words) so when she see's a word she know how to say it, but im not sure if she understands how or why.. and the sounds like 'th' or 'oo' etc

cheating perhaps, but its her way of doing it,, im sure it will click one day

Ask her school/ nursery how they teach reading. It can be confusing if you use a different system to them.

I'm very immature. I sniggered every time I read the name out loud to the kids. I had to say I had a cough.

She's only just 4.. so they arent teaching her anything, thats something they will do at school (sept)

they just said the fact she is showing an interest in books is great and something to be encouraged. They do have books she comes home with but after reading the book twice she memorized the story based on the pictures

we like to cook, we like to eat, we like to dance, we like to sing' .. u get the idea. So i took it upon myself to hide the pictures one day and ask her to read it backwards and she did.

So i just used her memorization technique but got the flash cards to increase the amount of words she already knew.

My daughter loved the Jacqueline Wilson books. She still has them on her shelf now. Tracey Beaker was a bit rebellious for me though.

"Just spent 30 mins reading these books.. massive part of my childhood and learning to read.

My reading age was way ahead of my physical age, so I read all sorts of books as a child. I got through them at a voracious rate.

I remember my mum having a battle with my junior school to let me read books from the 'older' age ranges when I'd read every book designated for my year group. Initially I was told I'd just have to re-read them.

Robert Westall. I've got most of his books and Blackham's Wimpy is probably the best ghost story I've ever read. The Machine Gunners is brill and the series is also on youtube.

Frank Richards also filled many happy hours for me.

I went through many many books when I was younger, all the Roald Dahl's, Famous Five, Secret Seven, all the classic learning to read ones but my favourite book ever was the family from one end street, it was full of innocence and family values I loved it.

Then I hit teenage years and it all went escort and penthouse
