Ladies... does size matter?

Do you get upset if something supposedly 'your size' doesn't fit? Do you try to squeeze into it and refuse to get the next size up?

Or do you just pick whatever fits and looks good, regardless of what 'size' the label says?

I only buy things in the sales so I get the size that works regardless of the label.

My current regularly worn items say 14, 16, 18 and 20. Some are big and some are smallish and the label seems to have no bearing on which are the big ones and which are the small. It's a mystery.

Different places have different sizing

What might be a size 16 in one shop is a size 14 or 18 in another..

I never get upset.. if I like something that much then I will buy the size that fits x

I wish we had more choice in the bra sections for plus size I know can order online but sometimes like to have a look in the shops and to get measured etc only to find a selection of two bras that are functional but not very sexy x

I agree I like to feel the material before buying.. and big busted there's normally a choice of two bras... catalogue alot of range but never know if they are going to be nice

I absolutely refuse to buy anything bigger than a 14. I'm a size 12 now and fit into things between 10-14. But there have been times when 14 is a struggle and when it gets to that stage I'll purposely by something the next size down and won't buy anything till I fit in it.

I'm happy being 12 though

Why does it matter? If you like an item and it fits well, should it matter what the label says? Only you know whats on the label and you can always cut it out.

Generally it's not the persons fault but manufactures. In DorothyP alone I vary from a 14-20, refuse to a buy a 20 but only based on the fact it fits my bust but hangs elsewhere.

I buy what fits, and what is best value - which usually means in the Sales...!

Can't be bothered with fussing over what size it actually is - or if it's "fashionable"...

Clothes are just a pain, a total bother - I would so much rather be without them - if it wasn't so cold..!!!

It's all relative. This wasn't a question about body size. I was just wondering why some women (possibly men too) are bothered about what it says on a label. I have a size 10 skirt- according to the label. The size of it is actually a 16. The labels were obviously mixed up at the factory.

Label sizes were changed a few years ago. The old 12 is now a 14.

I had a member of my staff who squeezed herself into clothes at least three sizes too small. I had to comment on one occasion as we were off to an important meeting and her midriff was exposed, her breast squashed and her apron defined.

She said she bought whatever she could fit in, she refused to buy her size. The labels in her clothes ranged from 16-18. My suit jacket was a comfortable fit on her: I'm a size 24!

Good fitting clothes are more flattering and comfortable to me, so yes, size matters!

I think you look better in clothes that actually fit, used to have a friend who insisted on wearing clothes and in particular jeans that where two sizes too small which made her look worse and heavier

I completely understand this way of thinking. I have always said I'll never let myself get any bigger than a size 16. Not because there's anything wrong with being bigger but it's wrong for me. I'm currently a size 14/16 so I know that if I don't do something about it now I will end up really big, unhealthy and unhappy.....and yes I do know that I will be unhappy being that size as I'm not comfortable being the size I am. And I know I'm unhealthy as I don't watch what I eat and don't exercise. There is a psychological effect of having to buy a bigger size and that is the limit I have set myself.so no, I won't buy anything bigger.

If the numbers bother certain ladies that much why do n t the shops chop the labels off ,, its not like it d take a whole lot longer for your shopping trips you ladies try everything on anyway,

Go to bravissimo. They have loads of pretty bras for bigger busts and not stupidly priced either. They have online but also plenty of stores round the uk too

Ditto. I take no notice of the label as everything is slightly different. You can try on the same sizes in the same shop and the fit can differ

You know what. I got really tiny feet and tiny hands. Finding shoes that fit are such a hassle!!

...i can't buy a size up. If i do, the shoes just going to come off leave me barefoot (with socks on of course).

With clothes. No way am i buying a size up! I hate it if the sleeves are too long. That always happens. Irritates me so much.

I'm quite picky with sizes.

I don't worry about labels myself, If I see something I like I buy it, I won't kid myself in sizes.

I am a 14 but seem to be losing a bit, my tits

Some shops are silly with sizes, although I will not buy lingerie from new look anymore the size 36c never fits.

I don't think a woman truly knows what size she is with all these different measurements in different shops.

It isn't because of the label but because while it fits in one place it doesn't in another, if it fitted correctly I'd buy it.

I used to get upset when things didn't fit so did something about it and am much happier now as I rarely struggle getting items my size saying that I look less at sizes now and more how it looks when trying things on.

If i get a waist 30" it's just a bit tight. But if i buy a 32" its too loose. No one does a 31" and i hate wearing a belt!!

...i miss the days when i was a waist 28". That was only like a few years ago!

Sizes are a right pain. Especially with dresses. I need something with a bit of give at the top, as 34KK seems an unusual size, but my waist is 26" and so nothing looks right.

I know there is an obvious solution, but I struggle to put weight on.
