Was it a wasp? There are so many things that look like wasps.

I have a nest in my loft. I was told they don't nest in the same place twice. I'll let you know.

Striped and a pointy bum, if it looks like a wasp, I treat it like a wasp

I have a long running argument with my partner about wasps. I hate the feckers. We cannot pluck species from the Tree of Life I realise, but then I found out that bees evolved from wasps. I said that now we have bees, surely we don't need wasps anymore?! He sighed.

I don't like wasps much but then I met the hornets in France.

Wasps don't seem quite so nasty now. I still don't like them and would rather not get stung, but I'll take wasps over those hornets in France any day. They are enormous, vicious things.

If it had a rugby ball tucked under one of its wings, then it was definitely a wasp

Am I right in saying they offer us nothing?

In other words, they dont give us honey, don't pollunate, maybe not even eaten by birds.

They are a pretty shit insect. Gutted if your a wasp. Everyone hates you.

Wasps do pollinate - they are vital to our plant life, including food. I don't like them and they aren't as cute as bees but they do their job.

They also kill a lot of other shit insects that would ruin oranges and other crops, so I still think their complete twats but they do have a purpose or two

I just had a quick look on the internet after posting that they pollinate (in case I got it wrong ). It seems they save trees from beetles that eat whole trees too.

I thought we had hornets in the UK, so I checked and yep mainly in the southern counties, wasps are carnivores so eat a lot of other insects that are pests, leave them bee ( see what I did there,,) and they ll leave you alone,

Are French hornets different to British ones?

I had a butterfly and wasp in the garden last week. Spring warmth has woken them. Hate wasps, especially if they nest or are those European big hornets.

I've not seen red hornets in the UK. I've also not seen them quite as large in the UK.

France also has Asian hornets which have the most venomous stings of all known hornets. Their sting can, and does kill humans.

Asian giant hornets which may spread here from France are predators and attack and kill bee colonies, which is not good news at all.

Not true as 3 tmes I have been stung by a wasp and never knew it was there until the pain of the sting. Bees will not sting unless they are defending their queen or feel threatened so those can be left and will cause you no harm

"I think that goes for wasps too, Ladygarden!"

I hate wasps too but I don't think they'll attack unless they feel threatened.

I too was stung by a wasp, right on the end of my big toe - but I was mowing the lawn in flip-flops at the time, so it probably felt threatened.

Incredibly fckn painful, though!!

Wasps aren't that bad if you don't piss them off. And they are quite easy to gently Marshall out of the window.

Dozy fucker bees on the other hand, can't stand them. Bumble bees too fat to fly in a straight line so much harder to get rid of.
