As in chocolate bars, drinks, crisp/ice cream flavours, why so often are they distinctly tastier than the standard fare? I can understand limited batch runs as an effective means of testing the market for potential future products, but I'm guessing the rarity that these items ever become mainline produce suggests that other people aren't so keen?

The power of marketing.

It's easier to sell a new idea rather than try and revamp an old one.

Plus just adding the words 'Ltd Edition' often makes things seen more desirable, and can give an excuse the bump the price up.

If something's 'limited' it makes the product more desirable to the consumer ~ clever marketing.

"If something's 'limited' it makes the product more desirable to the consumer ~ clever marketing."

Possibly, but then again if someone doesn't like the product chances are they won't buy it again, regardless of how well marketed it is.

Hence why it's limited.

No long term production plans, short term advertising only and no massive overheads if demand isn't great!

It's a bit like a profile on here changing their preferences for a one off meet. Changing only their status update and meet post details (and adjusting filters for a short time) removes the need to make permanent changes to a profiles text!

Central

Orange or mint choc versions work for me, kit kat or otherwise. Maybe some save these limited editions, in case they get valuable, like those 'collectible' dolls etc.
