I think its a sad time when people who dont want to sleep with us black People (or in my case blackish) have to justify that they are not racist.

If I see the words "NO BLACK OR ASIAN" I think "fair enough" not "RACIST"

I dont generally dig black women... Oh hang on I need to Renew my kkk membership

Some people dont find members of a certain ethnicity unattractive, no one should have to justify that.

Just my ranty thoughts, what do you guys think? Should we have to Justify are ethnic sexual preferences?

I don't justify any of my preference but to be fair I don't rule anyone out on appearance or race. If I did I wouldn't feel the need to say I'm not racist

I think you have to add in the factor that there are quite a few, that both dont care what they say to women in any respect... and also those that are too thick to know they are causing unease

I kind of know how you feel, dude.

Many times I've been attracted to women on here, only to read on their profile; black men only.

Hey, I don't dwell on it but it doesn't exactly feel great! C'est la vie

I don't want to meet other cultures. It isn't on my profile as I wasn't sure how to word it politely. Black men have looked at my profile but have not messaged me for their own reasons which is ok. Saves everyone awkwardness.

Peaky Nipples

I understand we all have preferences, but to discount a person, based solely on their race, how is that not racist?

Unless you've seen every person of a particular race/culture, how can you know you won't be attracted to them?

I don't understand racism though, or bigotry.

A person should be seen as that first, race, culture, class etc shouldn't come into it

But then how would you explain a white woman asking for black or asian guys only? Is she being racist to her own race?

Also you never see guys saying no asians or blacks. Its 99 times out of 100 a female saying it. So does tgat mean only women are racists?

For me, it is not racist. It is a preference but I dont see the need to state it on profile. If you not interested, simply ignore message. I personally find it rude when those statements are made.

I agree with you. A person stating that on their profile may not be intrinsically racist, but to say that every single person of a race is unattractive to them is short sighted at best.

All black people do not look the same. All Asian people do not look the same. Even their skin colour varies, so the only thing they all share is their race. So what is it that people who say Black and/or Asian people aren't attractive to them mean, what is it that is unattractive about them?

The dictionary defines racism as :

The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

Lumping all people into the category of "unattractive" because of their race surely falls under the first part of that definition.

Like I mentioned in a previous post. Having a sexual preference to a race does not mean they are all racists. However, racism can fuel their sexual preference.

Since racism is about what they think and their beliefs, it is hard to know if they are or not. I prefer not to approach anyone who has no interest in Latinos. There is no need to question their beliefs or preferences. I prefer to find someone who doesn't care about race, skin colour or culture.

TBH I think the word "Racist" has been skewed so much since it's inception and some people use it too broadly to their own advantage. for example if I get into an arguement with a Muslim/Sikh/Black Person and I decide I do not like him or her for his or her opinions or they way they speak to me, I see it as making a decision based on the way I react to that person. now the other person could call the racism card. I think racism should be reserved for hatred towards someones Race. because we do not find Black people sexually attractive does not mean we hate on them because of their race/creed/colour

Firstly OP may I say well done for picking a popular theme and picking up the popular response gauntlet.

OK, on to the reply to the quoted bit:

They don't 'have to justify that they are not racist' - they choose to. No one is forced to explain.

And of those who feel they must defend the right to preferences.... there will be different motivators for doing so.

There is a difference between debating if a statement is racist and whether a person is a racists. Deciding the statement isn't doesn't always mean the person isn't.

Do you mean you only want to meet people of your culture? If that's white English/British do you discount white people of other cultures lol

We all have our preferences and clarifying them by saying you would rather not meet with certain types of people is everyone's right and saves a lot of time. When that preference is skin colour that's no worse than saying I won't meet bald men, fat men, ugly men etc because it doesn't please my eye and that is what sexual attraction is all about. Colour of skin is a visual thing, its when that preference is expressed because misconceptions about certain types of people, maybe that's not so good, ie, all black men can dance and have big cocks, or all fat men are greedy and stuff their faces all day. If you were blind would colour make a difference?

Preference is preference, choice is choice. Simple as really.

If something doesn't go someone's way nowadays all to often the racism card or the discrimination, victimisation cards get played.

Trouble is though that discrimination is judging a whole group of people as one. Not taking them on their individual merit. So technically it is racism to say that you don't like everyone in a bparticular group because you have not met everyone in that group.

I've been called all kinds of things on this site due to my preferences and that is simply all it is.

Worst I've had so far was a random message saying

"I hope you die of aids you n**** loving whore"

So out of me and him, who is the racist?

I do find guys of other races attractive but just not to the same extent, I don't know why and I can't explain it, but we are all made unique and I think that's important.

If all us ladies on here were attracted to the same kind of guys it'd be a nightmare.

I've come across profiles where the guys have stated they want slim women? Am I then entitled to message him either hoping he'll make an exception or maybe even hurling abuse at him purely because I'm bitter that I don't fit in to his preferences.

What is the point?

Just think we need to accept that any person has the right to choose who they are or aren't intimate with regardless of colour, size, age etc.

I mean jeez....I would rarely sleep with anyone shorter than me....does that make me a heightist too???

What does the colour of someone's skin really mean????

Nothing!!!!

It eludes me why racism has taken such a strangle hold over the generations

Just because someone's coloured, Asian, Indian, Caucasian,

Who really cares, we are all human and the same!!!

So why does racism still exist??

I have to admit that I don't really buy the "personal preference" thing. What's the underlying motivation beneath it. Surely there's some kind of social conditioning involved, no? In most instances it's not a physical thing, but a like or dislike for the cultural traits that are associated with that race.

Everyone is free to find their own definition of beauty. I'm just suspicious when it's racially motivated.

to explain that you aren;t racist you said you work in a school, speak to black people and probably my favourite bit:

People like different things. I haven't got the time or urge to work out why someone doesn't want to sleep with black people. That's their choice surely. I do find it helpful when wrote on their profile though, saves us all time - I just add them to the block list so I don't message them in the future and move on. Life's too short !

The way the 'preference' is couched IS racist.

All the straw arguments, red herrings, blind justifications , allusions to preferences, confusions with culture do nothing to hide it.

Sometimes it 'aint what you say it's the way that you say it.'

Not something I've ever had to think about as I know I'm not racist to my own race and I merely have a sexual attraction to black men.

Have you ever thought that those cultural traits you dislike are the ones demonstrated by actually a small minority of our nation but sadly tarnish the whole country.

The benefits row is a perfect example. There are a lot of people who abuse the system therefore a lot of other people have the opinion that everyone on benefits are scum and scroungers, so what about the people who actually can't survive without government help, do they have to just accept that the nation label them as scroungers?

you have no single men, singling out a whole group of people because of their sex is sexist.

Maybe it just filters out some they are not attracted to on a virtual way, yet boundaries are lowered on reality.

We are quite ageist the virtual side, but could lower them on meets, clubs etc.

Its our choice.

And ideally we are looking for an ffm which could be deemed sexist.

East Manchester

We have a culture based on the equality of all its people, no one's allowed by law to discriminate against anyone on the basis of a large number of personal attributes.

But, personal freedom to make any decision or make any statement is always done looking over your shoulder in case a do-gooder reports you to the law for discrimination, because the law is so vengeful and people are so judgemental they have people living in fear of making any statement which could offend another and lead to a prosecution.

And it's for that reason people feel they have to make a declaration that they are not racist to justify their choice of sexual partner, individual freedom and the right to free speech can be exercised but it has to be politically correct.

Personally I think the OP has become a little oversensative to the " not a racist" statement on profiles, if you look at other womens profiles there are lots with BBC only and no posts from anyone complaining about that.

in real life where discrimination occur's and has real consequences then yes all discrimination has to and should be addressed..

and folks should be challenged and thankfully are when on here they are derogatory about other folks for many of the various different charasteristics we all possess..

recognise someone from pedantic moi may leap upon the use of the word characteristics..

think when folks start saying 'yeh but your ageist' cos your profile stipulates x,y or z then its all getting a bit up its own fundament..

Whatever preference we make will be a sensitive issue to those not in that group. Whether those preferences are racist or not is only known to the person stating it. I do know racism does occur here, as I'm aware of unkind comments being made to some of my friends. For myself, I do love dark skin, but it's about the person too.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

People forget the fact of an "ism" is usually the power dynamics that go with the lumping together of a block of people.

Everyday racism is prevalent among people I don't think of as being particularly aware if their language and behaviour. Dropping my dry cleaning off I had to give my name. I just gave my first name and The response was "at least you've got a proper English name not like some of the foreigners around here." There is no response to something like that. Racism is often casual.

How you post your preference says a lot. I have had messages on here from men who say no black/Asian on their profile and when I have said no, pointing out I am black I have had everything from abuse that I should be grateful that a white man took an interest in them through to the rather sheepish "I'd like to try one" or just a block.

Festishising a colour is just as racist as far as I am concerned - we're people not toys.

There was a South African comedian on R4 a couple of weeks ago who did a set on how you define yourself. He is dual heritage but as he pointed out he doesn't actually get to choose white on the tick boxes even though that is exactly half of his heritage. As for his culture I would judge listening to him it's probably white since that appears to be a cultural grouping now.

There are plenty of white people I have no desire to be lumped into any sort of group with, and many whose culture seems to have little in common with mine.

There are also some black/asian/mixed heritage/non-white people who are a joy to spend time with.

"I don't want to meet other cultures. It isn't on my profile as I wasn't sure how to word it politely. Black men have looked at my profile but have not messaged me for their own reasons which is ok. Saves everyone awkwardness.

Do you mean you only want to meet people of your culture? If that's white English/British do you discount white people of other cultures lol

I'm not racist as I work in a school with all different cultures, if I was I wouldn't do the jobs I do. I think it stems from when I was a child. people were against black people then. Opinions rub off, also my dad, who is not with me anymore, told me not to bring home a black boyfriend. I do and will talk to black. people or any other culture. When you say other white people you mean what exactly? "

Working with and talking with people of other races does not mean someone is not racist.

You mean in the 35 years or so since leaving childhood you have not developed the ability to think for your self?

"The way the 'preference' is couched IS racist.

All the straw arguments, red herrings, blind justifications , allusions to preferences, confusions with culture do nothing to hide it.

Sometimes it 'aint what you say it's the way that you say it.' "

i think preference is used when actually prejudice should be.

Discrimination and inequality based on racism and sexism is so ingrained that many really don't see their prejudices for what they are.

Positive discrimination, is still discrimination and you don't only have to be white to be racist or prejudiced

If you have a preference, it means there wont be a blanket ban in place, just that you will choose a certain type more often but if there is a blanket ban in place, how is this not a prejudice?

The motivation behind that prejudice is then the ism, race, cultural, sex, size , class

Wow. I went to bed with 9 replies, woke up to a long and interesting debate of opinions.

It's a sensitive subject, but for me... Having suffered real racism (being beaten up went I was younger several times Really badly because of the colour of my skin) I really don't find it offensive when people don't find certain types of people attractive.

If I was in a club and some one said "No black people please" I wouldn't be offended just wondering if it could be put a cross less rudely xD. Like "I'm sorry sur, u don't wish to bed a gentleman of your complexion, I am sure you a lovely person though"

It terms of not digging black girls, I just rarely find them attractive, but not always. I have seen a good few black girls who look stunning. I also have a thing for Chinese and Japanese girlS. Not because I am racist to other cultures, it's just a weird preference I have. Weird is the right word here I think

I just think as a society we are so quick to play the race card, so scared of what people might say that we don't feel like we can viably have an opinion on the matter with out being labelled.

Racism is, for me, when people want to cause hurt and pain to those (physically and emotionally) because of their race.

I do agree though that it's a grey area, lots of fantastic opinions.

Prejudice is based on a cognitive decision.

Attraction is physical, chemical and far more base. We don't decide to whom we are attracted.

How, therefore, can attraction be prejudiced.

If someone won't fuck (insert race) because they consider them lesser beings/dirty/stupid etc. then that is prejudiced.

Not finding someone attractive on a physical level then it can't be prejudice.

Of course. Which is why, in my opinion, the "no blacks/asians" or "whites only" caveats are prejudicial, because they target an entire culture, or skin colour, across the board.

I'll also say that I'm a memnbe of another site, where racial caveats are banned from use. Suffice to say, it creates a far better atmosphere.

I have yet to meet an Asian man I am physically attracted to. I therefore, as the time I have for meets is limited, concentrate on those I am most likely to be attracted to. That, to me is common sense.

I don't think all Asian (Indian subcontinent) men are dirty/arrogant/stupid or anything else. I just know, from experience, I am far less likely to be attracted to them on a physical level.

I can't meet everyone.

Prejudiced? I don't think so. You are free to disagree but it won't change anything.

Prejudice = prejudgment. Forming an opinion before becoming aware of the relevant facts.

I do demonstrate prejudice when I state that Asian guys shouldn't bother messaging me as they are not my cup of tea. I have prejudged the outcome before even seeing the person. It makes no odds that I have yet to see an Asian guy who makes me go "phwoar yes please" - I have prejudged.

The motivation for my prejudice is a different matter.

I wasn't referring to people saying they won't meet anyone of a certain race. I was commenting on the claim that not finding an individual of a certain race attractive is prejudiced. You're either attracted or you aren't, physically speaking.

On the matter of ruling out all Asian men...

My profile says specifically that I don't wish to meet Asian men because I have yet to find one attractive. I realise I may find some attractive but I also know I am far more likely to find other races attractive. It's a practical decision to do with how I manage my time and using an approach more likely to yield positive results.

My decision not to meet Asian men is not based on any sort of prejudice against them and I recognise I may find some attractive. I am using my previous experience, to maximise my chance of meeting men I want to fuck (and who want to fuck me).

Do I take exception to "no fat birds" on profiles? No because I've already clicked onwards. Do I feel discriminated against? No. They think they are unlikely to fancy me. They know what they tend to like.

It doesn't matter much to me because I've made my decision and that's all there is to it. Whether it's prejudiced or not, or fair or not, I'm still not meeting Asian men. I embrace my choices and my right to make them.

Working with and talking with people of other races does not mean someone is not racist.

You mean in the 35 years or so since leaving childhood you have not developed the ability to think for your self?"

Yes. I don't want to meet black men or Asian men. Enough thought ability there for you?

"

My decision not to meet Asian men is not based on any sort of prejudice against them....

No being interested in meeting one person because of your previous experiences of meeting other people is prejudice.... you have prejudged the outcome.

Embrace your prejudice!

But you can see how that is conveyed could (I'm not saying is) be racist?
