Do any other ladies feel irritated by guys they've never met calling them Baby or Hun? It always feels slightly patronising or devaluing to me, as if I'm not a person, just a body!

I'm not a fan of sweetie either.

Why the need for a diminutive with a stranger? It just sounds like they're trying to diminish me. We successfully converse with strangers on a regular basis without resorting to these names so surely we can do it on the internet.

"Ok, so if people don't like 'hun', what IS acceptable then? Dear sir or madam? To whom it may concern?

I use hun all the time, at work, with friends and when chatting to meets...I don't see it as trying to devalue someone, it's friendly as far as I can see. I get called all kinds of similar terms in lots of situations too...one woman I work with regularly uses chick, she isn't trying to call me a little bird, it just a term of affection.

On here I don't always know their names, and if I am given a name chances are it's not correct so I'd rather use something like hun than call someone by the wrong name (whether that's the name they gave me or I just got my men mixed up!) or calling someone by their profile name in the middle of starbucks

I can't stand it. I told someone I was exchanging messages with to stop calling me hun and he sent me a little angry tirade. It ended with him calling me a diva wannabe.

I will be forever grateful for that as Diva Wannabe is now my reserve name, if I ever change Licketysplits.

Isn't letting a stranger insert his cock in you far more "way too personal?"

Ffs, what is it with some folks (sorry if that word is somehow making some of you wince)

Is this a place where strangers meet, chat and fuck each other or have I stumbled upon a support group for angsty women?

Grump, grump

Being called hun by a stranger makes me want to kill! If they are largish I like to return the favour and call them 'squidgy' or 'dumpling'. Tall men 'lofty' small men ''tiny' and imagine their face when they read my reply. But then I have a warped sense of humour

Those male words refer solely to gender (maybe not boss, but that's deferent) whereas Hun and babe refer to personality : honey = sweet, babe = childlike. These people don't know me how can they use a term of endearment ? I have many American friends and not one has ever written hi bitch to me in an email!

One of my male friends calls me baby girl and I absolutely love it.

I find those kind of names endearing rather then patronising, think it shows attraction or affection which I think can be flattering.

I really don't think deeply enough about these kind of things to label it as demeaning to a woman to be called babe.
