Why do folk get hung up on peoples preferences if for example i come across someone who is not what i woukd generally look for but i found either them or profile interesting i would not automatically rule the person out.

I'm not English i have never put this on my profile or felt the need to mention it, its not something i hide, if a thread comes up about such things i will post, if someone asks me where I'm from i will tell them but its not something i have ever felt the need to tell someone when arranging a meet

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

After a thread discussing ethnicity last year I had a message telling me that my profile should clearly state that I'm not white as I am passing myself off as white with a tan.

My view is that you either like the profile and the pictures or you don't.

I thought you were white

I have enough flesh from different parts of my body to show that none of it is white.

So what are you out if interest? "

Mostly Asian origin (assumed Indian but not sure where) with Portuguese and a bit of Afro Caribbean. I'm from South America/Caribbean.

Yeah I must be colour blind because you look white but tanned to me. You got fair skin

I think the underlying question for me on this is the reasoning behind the "preference" specified. Is it as simple as not being attracted to somebody that's "white/black/asian", or is it more a case of "I'm happy to talk to someone at work that's X, Y or Z (and possibly even fancy them a little), but they're not an 'option' in terms of being intimate with them" due to some other stigma associated with doing so?

& if not that, is it the case that some people have had a bad experience with a man or woman of type X and they've decided to write off the rest of that 'group' of people as a result of that?

I'm sure in some cases it is as simple as just being more attracted to / turned on by a certain look or whatever, which makes perfect sense. At the same time, I don't doubt that in some cases there is a little more ignorance involved.

I happen to be lucky enough to be close to people from an array of backgrounds and feel my life is richer as a result of the diversity (and at the same time I don't really even think of us as being all that different at all).

We all have preferences. No blacks, no whites, no Asians, no Bi, no Straight, no fat, no thin, no couple, no single, no bald, no long hair, no one local, no one to far away, etc.

It's easy to feel 'discriminated' against when reading a profile. But with (at this moment in time) 16810 profiles online, I'm sure you can find somebody with a mutual compatability.

...or if you don't agree, to all the guys having a whine, it sounds like sour grapes and you are gonna turn more people off.

I dont feel duscriminated against. I am saying even if someone has soecific things they are looking for on their profile, they can put them to one side for the right person. It was meant to be positive post not a negative one
