I give something up every year - successfully too. No crisps or chocolate for the entire period.

Hell knows why I can't do it all year round

Anyway ... This year I'm attempting something different.

Whilst other years I've replaced the lent items with ice cream or cake ( I'm a fat cow ok) ..this year its a lent detox so Im giving up all 'treats'

Do you give anything up??

I've switched to eating little bits of high quality high cocoa percentage choccy. All the benefits and intensity of taste but not too much. I could give up being a lazy arse and get down the gym more.

Maybe fine give up something but give something instead. Try doing a good turn a day. Visit a neighbour. Do some volunteering. The mothers union did a "count your blessings" thing a couple if years ago. Try googgling it. I thought it was very good. Xx

Lent is a form of sacrifice. So giving up something that is easy for you to give up for the 40 days isn't really giving up something for lent. Try being celibate. That will be a sacrifice for everyone on here

Durham Cathedral - I haven't seen them before. The children I have in my life are all atheists but I did get my mother a lovely olive wood cross for Easter.

Not giving anything up, more taking something up. I intend to walk 5miles every day for lent. God help my poor puppy, she only has little legs, they will be stumps by Easter.

me and the kids always try and usually succeed - id like to give up bread but as im home alone most of the time i love the things on toast for tea or a butty - just laziness really - i have given up my beloved cheese in the past and might do this again -

NOOOOOooooooooooooooo! that woman on the magazines said you could make ice cubes from it, never had any left-over wine so I haven't tried it.... next lent please give up throwing wine in sinks

My Lent update: I took my Mum the cross and she tried to eat it.

Hardly. I can give up sex faaaar more easily than I can give up chocolate, cakes, crisps and the occasional glass of wine.

I've managed perfectly well without sex for prolonged periods throughout my life.

Last year I gave up chocolate for lent. At the end of the 40 days I could gladly of killed someone. So this year, for the sake of my liberty, I've given up nothing. (Was thinking coffee but I would be typing this from a prison cell - on a smuggled phone)

I am not religious so am not doing anything special for Lent, but I have recently stopped drinking alcohol as part of a healthier lifestyle decision.

I am hoping I can keep it up until July (when I go on holiday) and am curious to see the effect.

Previously (last year) I also stopped eating bread, don't miss it at all. Sadly I can't say the same for booze, I really miss it...

I think she probably fully understands. When we were young we would give up TV or video games. It's not just about food.

Yep seems reasonable to me. If it's a sacrifice I think it works. Day 2 for me in sobriety house
