Our American Cousins have successfully put the experimental miliatary X-37B war plane into orbit. It's an unmanned warplane, about a half size of the shuttle and designed to remain in orbit for up to nine months before returning automatically to Earth.

The Americans say that the small payload it carries will be used to test materials in space for use in satellites of the future.

I expect that the international treaties banning weapons of mass destruction being put into space may well be stretched a long way now
