Just got in to find that a tap was left on upstairs, pouring through the ceiling downstairs !!!!! Bloody kids !!!!!!!!

That's bloody annoying! Stay calm, take photos, clear it up, claim on insurance if you can for accidental damage?

Spray electrics with wd40 after switching them off, mop up, job done.

when I lived in a ground floor flat my upstairs neighbours child had left the tap running and it was coming through my ceiling took ages to sort . she was more concerned about her bathroom carpet

She was liable for your repairs and costs."

it was a council property worst bit she was in bed asleep leaving the child to do what she wanted

I think you would be better off using a dielectric spray than wd40 or letting it dry naturally...

In a previous flat, my adult upstairs neighbour started to run a bath and then fell asleep. As the water was pouring through my bedroom ceiling and light fitting, saturating my bed, I was pounding on the door trying to wake the dozy old bat up.

Eventually she staggered to the door and when I finally managed to get through to her what the problem was, she ambled off to turn it off, in no great hurry.

She took no responsibility for the damage. She cleared off in the early hours of the following morning,(to stay with family, I think), to avoid doing anything about it. My insurance had to pay for it all.

My bed was destroyed and I was without one for nearly 3 months.

She never even said sorry. The best I got was when she snapped that she didn't do it on purpose so it wasn't her fault!

Wd40 displaces water and is fine to spray into things like light fittings with the electric off. There maybe better things to spray on it if you have it available.
