Knife help

Can anyone tell me what brand names to look for to get a good quality pocket knife for mrnotts birthday. He doesn't want any gadgets , just a blade for practical jobs around the home and garden. NOTE - this is in no way linked to our sexual activities !!!

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help. Anyone forthcoming with a lot of info, I do appreciate your help but I will be blocking you for your over enthusiastic knife knowledge

Leatherman are a very well respected brand, I (me) have one thats have been on many an adventure. Never let me down yet.........

When I worked in the field in forces I used normark knives, good blade very good knife,

He said he wants to be able to open cans and stuff like that with it ...he's a bit odd like that

The knife has to be appropriate to the task in order to be good, Victorinox (Swiss army knife fame) are good and have a good range of pocket knives (google them). Be aware that many are now illegal in the UK, and even more so don't do what I did and turn up at an airport with a top quality and very useful knife forgotten in my pocket never managed to get one as good since they took that one away.

for a general purpose pocket 'tool' then leatherman as said is a good bit of kit..

for a gardening knife something specific from a good garden supplies outlet..

find the blade on my leatherman is not that good for gardening..

Gerber are definitely becoming the multi tool survival knife of choice.

I've had a leatherman for years but I prefer Gerber. Neither are cheap though.

He wants a Swiss army knife they have lots of useful implements e.g bottle, can opener, blade, saw, but you do need to get a good one I hope this helps.

good plan, I only carry a single blade knife, it's hard to cut something while half a dozen screwdrivers and tools to get old ladies out of horses hoofs are digging into your hand!

But I have several bottle openers and cork screws scattered about in easy reach, so the important things in life are not subject to undue delay

Depending on what he wants it for and where he will be using it, if its a single blade knife he wants you cant really go wrong with a Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife. It will do everything he will want including opening cans.

Current law is unless you have a proven good reason for carrying it, it has to be:-

A maximum of 3 inches and floppy (no lock)

Try benchmade, they made some epic balisongs but they do pocket knives too! and there are retailers in the UK too!
