that bugs me but the WAY in which it's said - do you react adversely more in a debate if the way in which information is supplied is put forward in a smug 'i'm better than you' way than if it's straightforward and heartfelt!? Z

O o O oo

I think everyone does, and why sometimes things get too heated as people get offended.

Totally true - which is why messages on MSN or via text can so easily be misread as they lack body language , pitch, intonation etc. The same statement in a meeting can be said with irony, sarcasm, cynicism, humour, as a question/ statement... etc.

absolutely.... but the problem is that some people will always think they are "better than others" its just the way life is...

I would rather hear someones actual opinion in there own words rather then tow the line of a certain newspaper or copy an article word for word.....

No one likes being condescended to!

There will always be something you don't know and someone who's an expert or armchair expert.

Some people have a natural affinity of sharing information/views without making you feel stupid or brow beaten.

Others can't help themselves: puffed up with their own self importance they'll spue out their views ad nauseum and become offensive if you don't agree with them.

I tend to avoid these types of people as they're usually 24 carot bores to boot!

It is about being yourself in a conversation and remaining respectful to the other person, irrespective of their status and ability to express themselves?

I think you should say what is true to your own beliefs and not what someone else (Political party/Newspaper/News programme) has told you is the way to think.

As my grandad always said...."speak from your heart and not from your arse"

Def Sassy - cou;dn't agree more! I'm not thick but admit to not being the brightest bulb either at times - sometimes I think I know something but don't say anything - discretion is the better part of valour? or have i got that wrong too!!!! Z xxx

Agreed - also, if you dont agree with somebody there is no need to be offensive. After all, diversity of opinions is what makes life (and the forums) fun IMHO

Its often interesting how two different editors give a totally different angle on an event. It shows how things can be portrayed differently with the use of slightly different words.

I disagree - i think if we all agreed to disagree except for when we agree - and even then we could just pretend to agree but actually disagree - then - oh - can I have an aspirin? Z
