okay... so the big kid finally got the better of me and i went and watched the Lego movie.. and it was really good

so what are your favourite animated movies (dont all say toy story, shrek and finding nemo!)

all films with cartoons count (live action)

my favourite i think is the incredibles... but as beautiful images go... the first 15 minutes of "UP" is just so beautifully done and if there isn't a tear in your eye then I think you are emotionless!!!!

so...... discuss!!!!!

Wow difficult to pick one, there's loads Iike for different reasons.

My current fave is Frozen, Classic Disney storytelling, animation & soundtrack ~ will make an epic musical production.

But I'm with you OP re Up, the balloon sequence is awesome and the emotion displayed between the old man & his wife ~ brings a tear or two to the eye.

Titz Towers, North Notts

It's got to be The Incredibles, it is really entertaining and funny.

I got both the Despicable Me's for Christmas and apart from The Minions, these films are distinctly average.

I've enjoyed all of the obvious ones including Ice Age and Madagascar. Realliy enjoyed the Incredibles too. But an unusual one I saw loads of times, as my son was at that age where he'd watch the same film over and over was Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas. Thoroughly enjoyed that.

Great selection.

(apart from POE which I have not watched)

So many great films to choose from.

Jungle Book has to be high on my list (as was one of the Disney films out closer to when I was a young boy)

Lilo and Stitch.

Like all the Pixar movies (each offers something different)

How To Train A Dragon

To be honest, like most animated stuff (you can always do so much more and present fantastic stories with amazing visuals)

That is before we even get to TV cartoons.

the new early shots of tarzan 2014 looked great...maybe not up to my thinking of how graphics have progressed.

a simple example is a film called Kon-tiki , the lines of fantasy and reality are really blurred..its so hard to pin down whats not real.

I imagine in 5 years time..computer graphics will be indistinguishable from real life......the graphics now that we are getting arent anything new(take world war z for example...which looks physically identical to I'am legend!)

handdrawn animation sometimes is great 3d work, sometimes it is amazingly done by hand.

have a look at dragonslayer(1982!)its very old...but features some of the best stop motion animation i have EVER seen

I made my niece watch it...I may have to watch it again

I really liked a turtles tale, like I say..there are so many independent animators around..some are really overlooked

animations like Antz pushed the boundaries a little...adult humour pushes the sales(and yes better stories)

Some of the best are the films that can keep kids glued to the pictures and imagination whilst containing enough "hidden" adult jokes / content to make parents want to take the kids to the cinema to see it.

As for others

Lion king

Beauty and the beast

Dumbo

Dino riders!!!

Monsters inc

Shrek

Toy story 1,2,3

Many many more

Controversial time I must be the only in the thread that doesn't like finding nemo shocking I know but I just found dori really annoying

Been thinking about what qualifies a movie for this list, and for me I think it would be one that I've watched, and liked so much that I'm happy enough to watch it again straight away. But I resist the urge to do so too many times, as I don't want to wear the corners off, so to speak.

Plus, I love seeing something new in the background that I've missed in previous viewings, as I often do with another of my favourites,

Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!

"I'd forgotten Tim Burton, The nightmare before Christmas and The corpse bride are in my favourites too.

Grr I hate myself for forgetting The Bellevue Rendezvous, it's brilliant and probably my number one!

Have you see The Illusionist then also by Sylvain Chomet - if you liked Belleville rendezvous you should love it - just beautiful animation.

No I haven't seen it, thank you very much for the recommendation!"

Very welcome indeed xx

Well technically you didn't as he was responsible for '9' being turned from a short into a feature.

And speaking of Tim Burton I really love "Vincent". I've always had a thing for stop motion.

Another amazing short film is Tomek Baginski's "Fallen Art". Pure genius, incredible lighting and it appeals to my warped mind. He does great work.

Also "Backwater Gospel" is a superb animated short with awesome art style.

Oh my god yes, the CG sharks are amazing.

(and I should know I'm studying VFX)

I got to talk to the head of Chaos Group who did the effects for that at an animation conference in Stuttgart. He's a cool guy.

Spirited away, lion king, BFG, land before time were all great but I was a child when I first watched them and loved them.
