Yep, see a message, check the profile before reading the message to see if the profile matches what we`re looking for. Read message, check profile again and decide yea or nay

there are some occasions where I'll delete the message unread & not look at the profile either......

I would take it more, as they read the profile and wasn't interested so the message content didn't matter. You can look at profiles without showing in the 'who's looked at me', quite a few people browse in stealth mode. (We do)

Wouldn't assume it's because they are fake...

I would take it more, as they read the profile and wasn't interested so the message content didn't matter. You can look at profiles without showing in the 'who's looked at me', quite a few people browse in stealth mode. (We do)
