Tin hat time!

I am appalled at some of the grammatical and spelling mistakes on some peoples profiles on here.

Am I the only one to have this opinion?

No you are not the only one!! My pet hate as well!!

It's amazing how peeps spell:

There, instead of their,

Your instead of you're,

the list is endless.

My old school master must be spinning in his grave - the bastard.

I really could careless about people's spelling and grammar mistakes. No one is perfect and we all have strong points and weaknesses.

My spelling is terrible but luckily my phone corrects most of them for me.

I'm terrible at spelling but I guarantee there will be something that I'm better at than you.

Spelling was one of my strengths in school, loved the spelling test but punctuation, not so great. If I see bad spelling and they have contacted me, I do tend to ask if they are dyslexic and generally find that to be the case.

I have to disagree ... I do like to have a degree of intellectual interaction too ... and generally the use of text speak and grammatical and/or spelling errors is an indication that there is a numpty sitting typing one fingered at the keyboard !!! Love the fact that someone who has said poor spelling and grammar is "awful and lazy" has used no capitals or full stops!

Let he or she who is without sin cast the first stone eh?

I'm a bit of a pedant and personally confess I may choose a well-written profile over one with bad grammar or that terrible text speak (if the content was similar) but ultimately I'm not here to recruit anyone to be my PA, I'm here to find sexy people to play with.

Dyslexics are seyx too! lol

Poor spelling doesn't bother us, as long as the content of the message is of interest. Text speak, however, is a refusal and a block.

See what a pointless argument this is because the peeps who are so particular are also guilty of spelling and grammar mistakes. Being a pedant is really not very sexy.

Or maybe some peoples skills are elsewhere ? My son struggles a little with reading and writing, but has really great understanding of most things mechanical, with no official training. Its just his natural talent.

Whatever happened to understanding and appreciation, caring? We are not all born equal, we do not all become rocket scientists, mathematicians or football stars! Some will be good at literature or maths or science or mechanical skills! We are one human race striving to make a living, hoping to make the best out of life, caring for family and friends, looking out for our elderlies, being part of our community.....being human beings!

Central

I work with people with learning difficulties, so I overlook most stuff. Some things may raise my attention, but usually because I have to proof read alot of written work.

In general I don't look down on others, it's not something that I'm comfortable doing. And the most intelligent, best educated person can make these same mistakes.

"Whatever happened to understanding and appreciation, caring? We are not all born equal, we do not all become rocket scientists, mathematicians or football stars! Some will be good at literature or maths or science or mechanical skills! We are one human race striving to make a living, hoping to make the best out of life, caring for family and friends, looking out for our elderlies, being part of our community.....being human beings!"

It's great to see someone who actually understands that we have not all not only been lucky enough to have a good education but also understands that some of us just simply don't get it and yes I do include myself in this category, i have worked hard all my life but still sometimes find it difficult to get grammar and spelling right and in truth find it very hard to believe I could actually piss someone off because of this.

Checked twice before posting, if there are any mistakes oh well

It's quite simple

Bad spelling makes people look stupid in some people's eyes.

Who wants to look stupid?

Much of the mistakes on here are typos caused by autocorrect

I have also noticed recently that the word where sneaking in to sentences instead of we're or were. I can only imagine this is caused by Siri or the like.

Another one that is getting more common is could of instead of could've or could have.

Best stop here before I get into rant mode

There is a lot of truth in that and miss spelt words don't bother me. Chavy grammar I am less tolerant in if its a pm but on the forums? Really are people that anal? Well I guess some are but if you can understand it it doesn't matter in general but you do build an opinion of a regular offender like it or not.

No you are not the only one!! My pet hate as well!!

The trouble with posts like this is that it offers an irresistible invitation to wade in and be a pedant. I value good grammar and spelling, but there is a strong argument for being able to communicate effectively if not necessarily elegantly or perfectly correctly.

I have a pet hate of the over use of punctuation and have inherited my English masters' strong dislike of double (or worse multiple)exclamation marks. However, this doesn't prevent me from understanding your meaning, sd does it really matter in anything other than formal communication. I think not. I use a butter knife at dinner parties, but am not sufficiently civilized to use one when I wolf down my toast and marmalade in a hurry before dashing out to work. Same sort of thing.

It's amazing how peeps spell:

There, instead of their,

Your instead of you're,

the list is endless.

My old school master must be spinning in his grave - the bastard."

Intelligence will show some have been taught better than others.

Some more fortunate to go to better schools, and have had better teachers.

Some people had dyslexia and it was not recognised until it was too late.

It does not make them a bad person.

Not necessarily. Dyslexia too! I hate poor spelling and grammar but some people really can't help it. "

Please stop offering dyslexia as an excuse. Most dyslexics, myself included, take time to spell properly and form coherent sentences; or they do not write at all.

I suspect strongly those using “no” instead of “know”, mixing up “their” and “there”, “where” and “wear” and the old favourite “discrete” and discreet” either do not know or they are too lazy to find out.

And have a mental connection with someone who doesn't always manage correct spelling and im a pedant. Very similar to us. We like intelligent articulate people and well written profiles. Spelling and grammar while an indicator are far from the primary basis for identifying those characteristics.

Well if your intention is to have great sex the mental connection is vital. Although I love a good profile and my interest often starts there it's a small piece of the jigsaw. When im in the throes of passion im not thinking "and he has such a talent for sentence structure" or "his past participles! Oh my God, so hot"

Bad grammar might not be sexy to some but criticising others short-comings is a total turn-off.

I'm less worried than I used to be on the spelling. Mostly it's down to people being in a rush and their pudgey digits not hitting the right key.

The issue with grammar is just one of communication; if I have to read a sentence four or five times to get the meaning, then it irritates me. Hence, eats, shoots and leaves is such a picante example.

A classic case in point. I had to read your first sentence three times and still am at a loss as to your intention.

I wouldn't disagree but the majority of people who have trouble with spelling and grammar make the same (small) mistakes repeatedly rather than being indecipherable.

Personally I find the characteristic of picking on such flaws as unsexy as it comes.

I'd choose someone who mixed up there, their and they're over someone tut-tutting at others every time.

dismissing others for their education is mucher more not helpful.Personally I dont give a toss if a comma or apostrophe is missing here and there...I type "ur" instead of "your/you're".I can write a report easily enough when it needs to be done..thankfully shagging people never really needs something like that.

I'd consider u not understanding my comment as u not having very good barrier to communication learning..thats not an insult by any means, just that u cant appear to decipher something that wasnt really that hard to understand because it wasnt written in a high grammatical form.

Intelligence comes in many forms, some of you are using your own "intelligence" as a stick to beat others with because you are able to spell, how very sad. You think you'd know better.

And somehow your excellent paragraph structure and correct placing of apostrophes makes you and others like you more sexually alluring?

What about emotional intelligence? social intelligence? Not to mention humour, a kind heart and humility (despite the extensive vocabulary some of you are blessed with I suggest you look up that last word)

I wonder if some people realise just how unattractive and unsexy a trait superciliousness is.

Yuck. It all puts me in mind of Richard Briers in Ever Decreasing Circles for those old enough.

Yuck. It all puts me in mind of Richard Briers in Ever Decreasing Circles for those old enough."

Chris peacock you did right putting your tin hat on....my your post has ruffled a few feathers that's for sure. Take pin out, throw it and sit back an watch lol.

Does make me laugh when people are being crass, insensitive, judgemental and generally unpleasant that suddenly they pretend they were merely agitators when someone calls them on their behaviour.

Sorry, doesn't wash with me. If you read the posts on here it's clear this is genuinely how these people think, either that or the suggestion is they are quasi-trolls who post for attention, not sure which is more tragic.

Neither is sexy that's for sure.

"Grammar:

The difference between knowing you're shit and knowing your shit. "

Our brains can fill in the words easily. Have you ever seen the sentence that has been misspelled but we can still read it.

However, incorrect grammar or structure can confuse people.

Commas matter:

I helped my uncle Jack, off a horse.

I helped my uncle jack off a horse.

"Personally I think that comment about grammar is a little arrogant, did you ever stop to think that some people might be dyslexic or have other forms of learning problem? End of the day this is a swinging site so I don't see how relevant it is when were all here to get laid

I certainly don't want to fuck anybody with learning problems.

what a stupid comment, to take things out of context..or are u really just that ignorant to the various learning difficulties that are around."

Nothing stupid about not taking advantage of someone with learning difficulties and that is putting aside my sapiosexual inclinations.

Go look it up

I presume that was directed at myself, Pam not Tommy here. Everyone has a right to express what they feel/think and the fact that I said I find intelligence sexy and bad grammar not is surely my prerogative. You are indeed entitled to your opinion as am I but I feel yours is a tad aggressive. Check my post and it was in no way aggressive or nasty.

I'd change my uncle's name then.

Wildly, but they're not points they're full-stops and thankfully, yours are all in place.

If you can read and understand it, I don't see any problem. I'm sure there will be forums on grammar and spelling for the pedants amongst us. I'm not going to hold a persons level of education against them. If I see a badly written post and someone correcting it I know who I think the tosser is.

Right who is going to write the forum entrance exam…

On reflection and in relation to the site I would rather get close to a shit speller that spells clap clop than a fantastic speller ho can not only spell clap but has it.
