If you dont speak to someone for a while?

Had a text the other day (id forgotten who he is) from a guy saying we met on another networking site.

Id not used that since i was 18.. thats 7/8yrs ago now and he still remembers..

If we dont chat/text within 6 month i tend to delete.

When it costs nothing to keep them, yet effort to remove them, they generally stay on my phone.

I've got old work colleagues from 15 years ago I haven't spoke to in that time that are still on here.

That's the problem with mobiles is once you give your number you can't really take it back. I suppose that's why we don't really give it out in the swinging scene.

We do have a "Batphone" for occasional fun use thought.

This is a good question I mean I have numbers on my phone that I have not used for a year or so but think I would be to embarrassed to just message out of the blue now in case they had forgotten me but still have them maybe time to delete lol

As long as I need them sometimes months sometimes years depends on the circumstances really.

The change of phone is a good time for a clear out as someone has already said.

I love the random texts occasionally you get.

"Hi I have not spoke to you for a while. How are you?"

"Err fine who is?"

I keep them forever, as I always like to know who that random text/call was from years later lol.

But some you just like to get rid of like a purging of your own memory. A sort of *shiver* "NEVER going there again"

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I had to change my sim last October and didn't realise by doing so I would lose all my contacts, so I spent a lot of time over Christmas replying to texts with 'err, who is this?'

I now save phone numbers to my phone! On the plus side it cleared out a lot of chaff.

Every 2 years I get a new mobile and normally a new number due to spam texts/calls, etc. If I can safely say that they haven't contacted me in that time. I delete the number from my phone. At the end of the day. If they wanted to speak to me they would have done in that time. It had been a few years. Also everyone I know someone else knows them too. Plus I work in the public eye. So if anyone wants my number. They can easily find me to ask for it.

I'm flippant and fussy, I can keep a number without any intentions of ever deleting it and can then delete another one 10 minutes after getting it.

Sometimes I don't use it after saving it.

Sometimes I won't even save a number.. sometimes I won't even ask for a number.

Sometimes I just block and delete someone that contacts me without even telling them why.

Sometimes I block them without them even contacting me after I've viewed their profile.

Sometimes I don't..

Fab wise I'll usually go through every few months...if I've not heard from someone in a while I'll delete em. Have had several message months later from people who expect me to remember them, but seem to forget the name they gave me then isn't the same name they're giving today! I have no embarrassment in asking 'who is this' as there has obviously been no contact for months before I'd deleted the number, and I'm not gonna just keep 'Lee Long Shlong' in my phone forever!

I dont index numbers by date added obsessively, so just delete as and when. Backing up phone books is always a good thing, so some may persist for decades.

"They just sit there, can't see the point in deleting. "

For me, I can be chatting to a few people at a time with a potential to meet...a lot never make it to the point where we actually meet before they disappear into thin air so I try to have a regular cleanse to save ending up with a phone book full of Fab usernames. This is why I tend to keep it to those I'm actively in contact with.

Real life wise, the numbers can sit in there forever, even if just so I can send a Merry Xmas text once a year!

I keep most of them. That way, I know who to ignore

There's one person in particular I have stored as "name - DNE". DNE meaning do not engage. I've also blocked them on WhatsApp. It really was necessary in their case and I cannot see that every changing.

It's different to that on my phone, so I guess it depends on your handset and OS.

I either go into the chat where they've said something and block from there via that menu or from the main menu:

Settings

Account

Privacy

Blocked contacts

Then click the icon to add a new blocked contact.

Never delete, and keep the phone contacts backed up on my PC as well, never know when you may want to reach out to an old contact, or be know who is calling before deciding to answer!

Could understand purging the list on old limited screen phones but large screen and larger memory makes it unnecessary.
