New pieces of music or songs that you have discovered by chance... that made you stop and wanted to hear more...

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It was Rutter's Agnus Dei on Desert Island Discs many years ago. I listened to the whole of his Requiem, heard the story behind his composition of the Requiem and it affected me very personally.

I can't listen to that version of Agnus Dei without feeling both incredibly sad and uplifted at the same time.

Fantastic music... big fan of Mr R (and not just at Christmas!) - "for the beauty of the Earth" and "all things Bright and Beautiful" as well as the Gloria - great examples, I think, of his craft.

I loved the arrangement of "from both sides now" by Joanie Mitchell (i know the spelling is wrong, but its late) in the film Love Actually (the section where Emma Thompson realises her husband is having an affair). I cant put my finger on what it is about that arrangement but it makes me well up every time...

Thats it... exactly!

Just checked out your finds... love em

Music you wouldnt normally find in everyday life... had it not been been for links, recommendations, snippets..etc.. also checking out soundtrack music from films and tv programmes... e.g the group who do the music for the Ch4 sub-title drama " The Returned"..

In heaven, there is no beer.

That's why we drink it here.

And when we're gone from here.

All our friends will be drinking all our beer!

It's a country classic!

Mogwai did the returned I think. Starsailor was on call of duty (cod). Adverts on tv (goldfrapp) some shop music I like too. It really pisses me off if I hear music, like it, don't know how to get it.

Yes... you hear it... like it and then for days... weeks sometimes ...it bugs you as you cant find it! Then you do... and it opens up something new that you have found/liked

I heard a tune playing on a cd player in a campsite last year (the pitch next to mine)... loved the music.. should have got up and asked them... but didn't... went to sleep (unusual for me!) bugging me like hell the fact I don't know who the artist/song was (even now I think about it)... but when I find it... the sense of achievement

And at the opposite end of the musical spectrum, 'Sospiri' by Elgar.

Bristol East

Lola by the Kinks.

Hadn't heard the song until I went to the funeral of a transexual friend.

Crem aint exactly the place to get up and dance, so sitting there jigging in the seat and reading the lyrics in the programme.

Fabulous lyrics.

One of my faves now.

Brilliant!!! thank you.

If Sospiri is to your liking... try a gem I found (i love it anyway ) Eclogue - gerald finzi (its on youtube)

Also I know its very main stream but I think the Macklemore - Same love - is outstanding (not sure about much of his other stuff... but that one track ticks all my boxes)

I discovered Bruce Peninsula from hearing their music in Small Town Murder Songs. But I discover a lot of interesting music from video game trailers. Archive I found out about from seeing the Cyberpunk trailer. I discovered Woodkid from the Assassin Creed 2 trailer. And now I can't get enough of these groups. Particularly Woodkid, his music is very sad but epic sounding like a grand march to a battle that can't be won.
