A 13-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with the murder of an asylum seeker in newcasle . what is the world coming to when children are killing people'what makes them tick just to go out and kill somebody ?

children are too often left unchallenged...there are parents out there that let there kids run amok rather than have to face a 'scene'

sends all the wrong messages to the kids who just grow up thinking they can behaver, and do, as they wish.

As shocking as this is, it will keep happening till parents realise that their offspring need boundaries and are prepared to endure a few "i hate you's" and enforce them.

A child of thirteen, regardless of how wild they've been allowed to get, knows what is right and wrong. I just hope he gets what is coming to him and that it teaches him a lesson before he is let loose into society again.

The breakdown of the traditional nuclear family has a lot to answer for! These days no one has to work at a relationship, it is so easy to start again.

With our government "looking after us" from cradle to the grave, parents now look to anyone but themselves to control their ferral kids! Parents who grew up in the 80's and 90's particularly, have been told that it is their right to do what they want! Kids were given "rights" and the State effectively took over control.

What we need is a complete revesal and make young girls realise that having kids shouldn't be a lifestyle choice. Councils should stop handing out property to these young unmarried mothers and make them live with their parents! Maybe parents would think twice about allowing their kids to run riot!

But we are all complicit! How many times have you seen someone throw litter or a cigarette out of a car window? Or drop a can into a bush? Kids see that and the reasoning is, if it is OK to break that law, why can't I break others?

I will vote in the election for anyone who promises to turn back time on this....

I think they should bring the discipline back at schools and also bring back the Cain and I think the government should have a curfew on the streets for up to 16 year olds and if they break that curfew the parents should fined and have either there benefits or wages cut down for at least 6 months! .

I think seriously we have lost the plot with kids

WHO HONESTLY thinks its a good idea to allow their kids to hang out doing nothing much

I grew up in the 80's and 90's and I was scared witless of my parents finding out I had done something I wasnt supposed to so I didnt do it.

I never once threatened my parents with phoning the social services - altho a mate did once threaten and her mother handed her the phone and said go ahead I knew my mother would kill me if I had shown her up like that in front of a mate.

My eldest was born in 1998 and knows I will not stand for people coming to my door because of something she did and she has a healthy fear of my husband and I.

I have told her for years she is responsable for her own actions for example if a neighbour comes to my front door saying she did something and can prove it, she will have to fix it.

In the 6 years she has been going out to play with her mates I have only once had someone at my door and my family werent even in our town when my oldest was supposed to have done something (keyed his car) he got her hair colour wrong (he said blone she has always had dark brown hair) and a couple of other things I asked of him so I told him to stop being a trouble maker and go to the home of the child who had done what he was accusing my daughter of doing, turned out it was his own grandchild and cos I had never had the police at my door he thought it was about time I had them at my door

I will never agree that people who were children of the 80's and 90's are screaming about their human rights - I seriously doubt I actually know what most of mine are and I have worked for Amnesty International

I think its all about being able to tell the difference between dragging kids up and bringing them up - I choose to bring my girls up knowing right from wrong and I can say my nearly 12 year old has never been in any trouble because of what my husband and I have done to raise her and her sister.

You'll get some liberal softy, saying that he's only 13 and didnt know what he was doing... and it would be against his human rights to punish him!!!

These young kids know the law better than most, and know they can literally get away with murder!

Why does everyone blame the child? I am not a do gooder. When my children were small I was a disciplinarian. I was the adult not them. At the same time the discipline I tried to instill in my children was self discipline.

I can never understand people who say bring back discipline in schools as if teachers and heads have just said , 'Oh fuck it let the kids run the place'. There are changes in society and expectations on people that make children behave the way they do. Besides..... I do believe you can make a puppy do what you want by hitting it .. but when it is a fully grown dog you had better take care it will savage you as it was savaged when young. Same applies to children. If you hit them they will hit YOU eventually.

Another argument that gets up my craw is when people talk about single mothers. Unless there has been a rush on turkey basters and male abuse I do believe these young women are impregnated by males. Stop punishing them. They live in a society made by YOU. You don't do anything to stop the sex industry, advertising , commercialism, capitalism , rape, domestic violence, violence in the name of entertainment , drug abuse, alcohol sales , animal cruelty , child poverty. You just let it roll and then get all indignant when society isn't what you like. Some might say you do it to appear better than others.

I haven't read the article. Was the child mentally ill ? There are more emotinally ill children now than ever.

Yes it's horrible. Yes it's alarming. What are you doing about it besides sitting in an internet forum being all righteous ?

Just thought .... there is so much hatred spouted by adults in this country. Even my neighbour the other day and today wanting to join the BNP cos he believes that 'effing Poles' ( his words ) are why he is out of work.

Children listen to these rantings day in day out ..... gives them an idea of the value of a race doesn't it ?

I agree there will be someone saying because of the age of the child involved then he didnt know what he was doing - BOLLOCKS

I have a nearly 12 year old and a 7 year old BOTH know if they are doing something wrong.

I will give an example:

My 7 year old likes to help herself to other peoples stuff at stupid o'clock like eating all Stevens ice creams.

Yesterday Steven was taking out the paper rubbish and asked the youngest if he was going to find something in the recycle box that shouldnt be there, she burst into tears cos she had helped herself to an ice cream when she hadnt asked. Now that might sound cruel but she had to understand that the Flake ice creams werent bought for her (there was another 3 brands which were) and by stealing (taking without asking first) she was in the wrong and she knew daddy was going to punish her, firstly for stealing and secondly for lying about stealing.

She got herself worked up into such a state he didnt punish her so I had to - yes I was mean Mummy but you know what, its the only way to teach her that she did something wrong and I as her mother have to be the mean Mummy sometimes cos its in her best interests that I do it now and not in 20 years when its not an ice cream out our freezer but something out a shop or someones house, and Im visiting her in prison.

Life is very grim at times hearing about travesty like this. some poor person from abroad came here for sanctuary and has been killed by a minor. It shows no place is totally safe.

while i agree with much of what's here I also work with parents who are despairing of their childs offending behaviour. They have done everything possible to raise their children well, to instil good values, to nurture, inspire and support them, yet still the child/young person offends/reoffends.

its easy to demonise groups within our society, be that the child, the parent, the lone parent, the social worker, the police, the teacher ... but the issue is a problem for us all.

Better read it again! I never mentioned "Human Rights" I said "Rights"! Kids of the 80's and 90's are now between 20 and 30, so take a look back at how long the antisocial behaviour orders have been in force! Yep, since 1998! When a child of the 1980 breeding season would have been around 17!

I also never said that ALL people born at that time were the same, but the timing bears out what I said. The fact that you were scared of your parents reaction is good to hear. They obviously instilled a good social ethic on you, born out by your comments about your daughter. That doesn't mean all are like you though.

Both our kids have a great work ethic, both were born in the 80's and we made sure they grew up right, just like we did. And that is the clue! Kids will act like their parents allow or teach them to act... Doesn't bode well for the future...

ahh the usual its the non nuclear families that to blame for everythin from kids runnin riot to the wars in the worlds

if i had stayed in the good old nuclear family situation it would have been a lot worse an enviroment for my child to be raised in! right now im doin it solo and doing a very good job!

please dont tar us all with the same brush there are a lot of different things that turn a child to crime xx
