I hate the fact that most charities are 80%running fees and 20% actually to the needy.

But still its ny local hospice of dougie Mac cus they still do an amazing job

Absolutely. Hospices only get about 30% of their revenue from the government. So they really need local support.

i donate to a few.. not talking about direct debit regular payments

but the Royal British legion, Race for life, Rowcroft Hospice, Cancer Research all get something over the year.

Plus me and a group of friends set up n run a fundraiser for Children In Need. £800 was last years achievement.

I help out at the greyhound rescue centre, me and my daughter do dog walking

i have a few direct debits set up, one the greyhound rescue centre we help in, the brook donkey rescue and the Diane Fossey gorilla charity, i only do animal charities, i don't care as much for humans in afraid

Many charities rely on volunteers. I don't know the actual statistics but I think your figures may not be accurate.

I volunteer my time for one national charity and will give when I can to others through fundraising either done by myself or others.

I'll pop spare change in some nice chugger's pot if I feel inclined and will buy a poppy for the royal British legion etc

With that in mind anyone want to sponsor mefor my 5k nnext month

Might be slightly exaggerated but it is common knowledge about the high salaries and high running costs, never mind the actual abuse within.

Trying to find a particular item but I have read many news articles about it.

Doesn't stop me giving though, but it's always at the back of my mind

I do something every year for Christies this year I am doing the Manchester marathon the last time I done it I raised 1300. But I also donate every month to Christies they needs all the money they can get

My workplace supports a few.. Over the last year I've given to 2 hospices, air ambulance, foodbank and womens refuge.

I donate books and clothes to RSPCA and red cross.

i have a rescue greyhound but he's not a ex racer, he had problems with his legs when he was born so isn't upto racing standards, because of this the breeder was going to drown him so i took him home, he was only 6 weeks, had him 3 years now, that's how i got into the charity, the way people treat them when they are not making money out of them is shocking, and they are such laid back, loving dogs too

Coastguard, don't get a regular wage as such being self employed so give when I can.

Buy stuff for the dog from the rescue center where I got him from as the profits support the center.

Have to say I don't like that part of it. I used to work on telephone donation lines and people would ring up to set up the suggested £2 a month donation and we had to push the for £5. Sometimes we'd have to read out heart wrenching stories to get the increased donation.

Yeah they will pay for police helicopters but the ambulance services have to go cap in hand for theirs.

Very few pay these high salaries. The national household names do and housing associations. Most charities in this country are small. Salaries average around the national average and for many the directors/chief executives are paid around £35-50k a year and many of these are delivering services as well as running the day to day operation of the charity.

Charities still have to pay rent, heating, light, phones, insurance etc. If they have paid staff they are also bound by legislation. Volunteers also cost money. There time is given generously but some can't do it without expenses being covered and charities still have to manage them, pay insurance, train them etc.

The reality is that people see these running costs as overheads without recognising them as operational costs of delivering the service. Fundraising and governance costs cannot be claimed as charitable costs. If a charity is reporting 80% on those costs report them and get them investigated.

I support a number of charities with time and money and have had a 10% promise for the last 20 years. When I do well I can give more in cash when I am not earning as much I still give cash but up my time given as a volunteer.

Charities with over income over £10k are required to report so you can check their accounts to see how the money is being spent. It's all on the Charity Commission website.
