Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Well Congestion Charge revenue is up. There is great picture on TwitTwat of 24 buses blocking a road in both directions trying to get people around.

The problem is the stretches of tube not open are largely in the middle.

I really don't understand why both men don't sit down and talk to each other.

Also its time to get rid of the ticket offices and drivers and replace it with driverless trains as by year by year they strike by new year time usually and other times to and its loss of economy for London to .

I don't think getting rid of ticket offices is the answer though. I like having a person around to deal with issues when they arise.

When the doors get stuck how will a driverless train get out and do that thing they do sometimes?

The tube is a vital public service, I would make it much more difficult for a strike to take place, maybe ensure for example that at least 50% of the workforce vote in favour, not the shambles we have now where less than 30% actually voted for action.

The issue around ticket offices is the fact no one uses them, and the plan is to redeploy staff in areas where they can actually be used with no compulsory redundancies. It is ridiculous that the capital can be brought to a virtual standstill for such a non-issue.

Maybe this strike will make Londoners more appreciative of their Tube Network and stop whinging about the (subsidised) cost of their travel and pay the true cost.

Don't hold your breath.

Are you serious? Reason in part for in my view the justified strike is staff are needed for when things go wrong. Folk are given plenty notice of strike action so have time to make plans.

Strike action is last resort in the majority of cases folk if lose right to strike have no other tool to fight unjust actions by employers.

Far too many folk are selfish and instead of being selfish should stop rolling over when companies do things like unilaterally change terms and conditions of their employment no good moaning about your job if all you will do is say its ok boss do what you want.

I am no fan of either bob crowe or boris but watching news last night crowe said no matter what disagreements between him and boris takking to each other can resolve some things. Boris just went on about further diminishing workers rights to me that shows his strategy is not about reaching a settlement.

I am not a union member but do use tube quite a bit during the year its about safety and fairness.

this..

the sheer irony of Tories gobbing off about percentages in ballots by Trades Unions when half of them were 'elected' by in most cases less votes..

I challenged a politician about some decisions a few years ago citing the fact that the membership of my organisation (not a union) was greater than the number of people that had voted for something at a local level. His response was that the people who didn't vote had given him backing by not voting for another candidate and therefore he was the first among equals!

Boris was elected on the premise of keeping the ticket offices open. He has reneged on that vow. Not only will ticket office staff lose their jobs but other station staff will have to reapply for their own jobs. It is often difficult when machines are defective to top up my Oyster card as it is. Also ticket office staff are not allowed to sell a ticket for under £5 which makes it look like they don't do any work.

In his seven years as mayor, Boris has continually refused to meet with the unions, not just Bob Crow and the RMT

Until the mayors office sits down with the four unions on the underground, there will be more unrest.

bit early to make that judgement as his tenure is not done yet, safe to say that the capital has less police officers, less firefighters and stations under Boris than under Ken..

Boris as alluded to above deems it beneath him to deal with the capitals workers unless its by issuing HR notices or notice of termination of contract ..

bullying is not consultation nor negotiation..

And before he was away? Both manage to be on the television enough. A debate via camera on reported speech is not good enough.

Starky on QT is advocating that striking should be unlawful. As with everything else industrial action is being lost to this country.

the drivers and their union should be fcuked up the wrong un.

at least twice a year they hold the public to ransom to demand ott payrises and jobs that arent vital, be saved.

the purpose of a Union amongst other things is to fight for the best COS and protect the jobs of its members..

in some public services the members are also fighting the managers who want to reduce the service to the detriment of the safety of the public and the folks doing the job on the shop floor..

not only about pay..

if you want to vent your injustice perhaps contact the CEO's of the companies who cut costs eg. unstaffed stations late at night in order to boost the profit margins, or less police, paramedics and firefighters..

It's nice to see you have a good grasp of the issues at stake here. In fact most of the ticket office staff are TSSA members and not RMT members. All ticket office staff will have to reapply for other posts. Many of these posts are already held by other workers who will also have to reapply for their own jobs.

What happens when you want to buy a ticket and the machine doesn't work or there is a problem and you are stuck.

The same staff that were called heroes and saved lives on 7/7 will not be there to help if that happens again.

Bob Crow does not call strikes, the members do.

Crow is on a fixed term and like all RMT officials has to be reelected into office. If they do not protect their members interests to the best of their ability, they are kicked out on their ear.

Unlike many union leaders, Crow is approachable to his members.

His members are happy with him or he wouldn't be re-elected.

After seven years in office, Boris has refused to talk to any transport unions

perhaps i should have worded it in clearer, easier to understand terms for you..

picky is as picky does i suppose..

the cuts across the board affect everyone, be they the providers of the service eg. see above public sector examples given..
