These two cousins are responsible for one of the few German jokes that I've found funny.

When George V changed the family name to Windsor, The Kaiser allegedly instructed a theatre doing a Shakespearian run to change the title of a performance to: The merry wives of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha

I enjoyed it, thought it was balanced and offered a perspective on the outbreal of WW1 which I hadn't considered.

Because Neitzche attributed historical events to the actions of 'supermen' - its just one of the ways you can interpret history.

I tend not to subscribe to his philosophy much.

But then, I find the BBC likes a bit of that in general.

But the reality is that people so shape history. The programme showed the background of the individuals, showed their strengths and weaknesses and provided and real insight into how those in positions of power in the key countries at the outbreak of war while clearly stating that their actual influence was marginal.
