...Up on the Downs

Seeing as we're on cars today....

I borrowed my Mum's Fiat for a week in between Beetles, and rote it off on black ice, whacked it sideways into a concrete lampost! I phoned home and said "Well the good news is I'm OK......but I am afraid your car isn't!"

Somewhere in North Norfolk

I hope I'm not talking anything up here but I have never written off a car.

I've been in a few incidents, two were my fault but the rest weren't. None have been particularly serious though.

Here we go.....

I wrote my sisters mini off by hitting a roundabout barrier

I wrote my motorbike off and smashed the back of my mum's car up, not only the same day but the same accident

I barrel rolled my Capri and landed in a ditch upside down

High sided another motorbike at Brands on a track day, snapped frame, bike obliterated

All this took place before I was 21, since then nothing, not even a scratch

As yet I've never written off my own car... Twice written off another car when it's collided with mine.

First was business man trying to squeeze past me in a filter lane that was no longer 3 lanes... I couldn't and wouldn't move as there was a bus to my left. He hit my wheel, hit the kerb and wrote off his car..

2nd some woman didn't stop at a stop sign and drove straight out and although I stopped, not till the front of my car was parked into her passenger seat .

She thought that as my road wasn't straight and hers was she could ignore the sign.

Both times I was in a 4x4 so no real damage to mine. Both were settled that I held no fault.. but never been as scared as when I got out and could see the babyseat in the front. Luckily she had already dropped off... I didn't drive for a few months after that. Despite it not having been my fault and no one actually hurt

I've never written a car off. But, once in sixth form i parked my car (Toyota Corolla) in front of the building near a hump and went to my class.

I'm sat in the library around midday and i hear some guys trying to do a handbrake turn. Not sure why the fuckers tried doing it near a hump and they went flying in to my car. Hit my car so hard it ended on the middle of the road.

The alarm went off in my car and i was like 'ah fuck - that's my car'. All the students and staff came running to find me to tell me what happened. Went outside and saw my car was totally written off. The bloody wheels came off the axle!

Did you take their door off? So many people open their doors without checking, I'm sure most people have come close.

I can remember being stuck in traffic in a vw camper when my mum decided to get out of the passenger side to go to shop, a cyclist hit the door and almost made it all the way through the window which was fortunately open.

I MAY have also written off a Mk2 Astra Estate with a hedge trimmer! Hedge trimmer was a tractor mounted thing and burst a hose as I was going up a side street. The blade fell down on the Astra as I passed it, took out the front indicator, sliced the front wing open, took the door mirror off and punched a hole in the driver`s door!

Don't take this the wrong way, but that's a LOT of cars to write off, also have you ever thought of re-freshing your driving test etc.

I've been driving for 15years and I've never written a car off. Only had a bump at very low speed (cars weren't damaged, only a very small dent).

Was driving my Talbot Sunbeam over the border when some idiot in a Jaguar E-Type ploughed into the back at very high speed seems that the cornish ignore indicators as he decided no one turns right there

The police said he was doing close to 100mph

Never written anything off ourselves but a neighbour once ploughed into Vince's old Mustang while it was parked.

He was gutted, but on the plus side, insurance paid out pretty much what he paid for it which paid for a trip to New York.

It was unrepairable. I forgot to mention that it itself was completely written off.

And he only got it cheap as it was from a family friend. - The insurance money would never have covered the cost of another 2nd hand one for the model it was.

Less than two hours, one of the minis when I was fourteen, handed over the cash then had the rear subframe break away on the way home....that one was a big ouch
