Confidence / compliments

I find it really difficult to accept compliments, I think it's a confidence thing. I have never ever had a high opinion of myself, in fact quite the opposite so when someone gives me a compliment I just laugh it off or disagree which can often be offensive. I don't intentionally do it to offend, it just seems to be second nature now when really I should just be gracious and say thankyou. I'm also pretty lame at giving compliments too, am I alone?

I don't accept compliments well either, I get very flippant and think people are taking the pee, this does upset some of them

As for giving a compliment I always feel a bit silly thinking they will cringe because its me giving the praise

I would say you are far from alone especially on here. I have come to the conclusion many swing for the confidence boost and when you give complements on here I was surprised at the initial reaction I got as many couldn't take them so have moved to less blush worthy complements. I still think it is better to be as you say you are rather than a complement sponge as some are modesty isn't a bad thing but don't fall into the trap of playing yourself down too much either as there is a lot to appreciate in others besides the obvious.

Compliments on this site are fairly empty. After all people are only here to fuck you. People may find you fairly attractive but are likely to say you're a real stunner just for some action. Remember when I say 'you' I mean all women on here. I've seen some real hags get bombarded with compliments in cam rooms as much as the supermodelesque ones. Confidence comes from within. Smile and take a compliment with a pinch of salt but the real compliments come from those who gain nothing from telling you so, like family and friends, not some bloke on a sex site.

No your not alone ,years of put downs by someone has left Thier mark on me its one thing I'm always getting told off for but I'm getting my confidence back slowly x

OP. You are not alone in this. Most people shrug of compliments. I believe it's a very British thing to do.

Like you I am body conscious. I know my belly is rather big. But my partner makes appreciative noises as I walk away naked. I'd take that kind of compliment every time.

Try just saying thank you the next time you are complimented. Nothing more. Remember not everyone gives compliments easily. So you immediately shrugging them off can be very insensitive to the other person as well.

Depends complimenting me. I know someone who trust to compliment everyone because she thinks it makes people like her, I take no notice of any complimentary remark she makes or any that someone who wants to meet us in five minutes .

Genuine compliments I try and accept with a smile and a thank you. I also try to compliment people myself but it's very easy to think someone looks great ir whatever and not say anything.

Im the same I always struggle to accept compliments. If its about work, appearance or something Ive done I just struggle lol

I also find it hard to make a complimebt sound genuine.

I see complimentary comments on here as some lame attempt to convince me they are genuine. I strongly belive that most men that tell me that im stunning are just taking the piss.

I think compliments are an important way of showing appreciation for another person. In a society that is so quick to criticise and erode self esteem. Compliments are a way of helping build self esteem. However using them manipulatively compromises their power. I like giving sincere compliments and receiving them

I think our own sense of self worth can affect how well we give and take compliments.

I am better at giving compliments than receiving them. But I only give them when I actually mean it....

I never really know what to say other than to blush and say thanks or make a silly joke and shrug it off.....even if I know they are being genuine.

Mr B easily accepts them but can't give them...his are usually back handed!

I'm getting better at accepting them, but still not good at giving them out (especially to people I don't know very well).

It always seems quite awkward and uncomfortable and I have to fight the urge not to point out that a compliment doesn't mean I fancy them or want in their pants (thus undoing the good work of complimenting in the first place)

I am exactly the same. All squirming and embarrassed, not knowing what to say. But somebody gave me some advice that helped year's ago. If somebody compliments you then just say thank you with a big smile. It's hard at first but I now use it all the time and things are not awkward like they used to be.

Nope. I never believe a compliment unless it is from a very close friend.

On here, it's like "Yeah yeah. Whatever" but in real life I squirm even though I am totally genuine with any compliments I give, I never believe any given to me. Especially on the whole 'Show your face' threads x

i have no problem accepting a compliment but am also very able to see right through the transparent ones

i do love paying compliments too but i'm always honest with them, i just feel its healthy to be positive in life and why not pay it forward its good to makes others feel positive when you can too
