Chap got fired from the Samaritans when they listened to this call:

Hello, this is the Samaritans, how can I help?

Im going to kill myself

Don't do that, let me help.

I'm lying on the railway waiting for a train to run me over. I'm hanging up now.

Caller, stay on the line....

Titz Towers, North Notts

In his autobiography, Frankie Boyle says that the Samaritans is one call centre that should be outsourced to an undeveloped country. His logic is that when you find yourself speaking to some poor chap who's just seen his family get swept out to sea or something, your own problems may not seem so bad.

Had to laugh at that, but people suffering in their own minds and not visible can't be dismissed.

Central

We should not down play others' mental health problems. There may be no external cause, or something seemingly small may be the final straw. The samaritans are not judgemental and dont need overseas calls to help put things into perspective for them. Have a thought for anyone in despair or a phone line operator who feels unable to help someone enough. Empathy is a true asset to cultivate and will make the world a better place.
