Titz Towers, North Notts

I think it's important to get ones that will be the most beneficial and not to skimp on them. Back in 1997 when I was doing a lot of running I bought some good Hi-Tec trainers and they've lasted quite well.

I am sure there is a helpline somewhere to help you with this. Good luck.

don't get high tops for running, your ankle needs to be free and not restrained, you wont get any specially made running shoes with ankle support

Central

I like to research important purchases and also have a nose for good deals. Not really one for impulse purchasing, unless it is chocolate.

Take yourself to your local Cotswold Outdoors and Go Outdoors shops. They should both have a specialist running staff member. Seek their advice and buy whatever they both recommend. I walk and when it comes to new boots and equipment its what I do and it works for me.

And buy from Go Outdoors if you have the choice (after buying the discount card [costs £5] and lasts a year).

Hope this helps.

Somewhere in North Norfolk

Go to a specialist running shop. Some have scanner thingies that show how your weight is distrbuted when you run and they advise on which shoes will best support your feet and fit properly.

I don't know if it's still there but there used to be one called The Sweat Shop near Reading station. There will be others so I expect a web search will yield results.

I'd never buy something like running shoes online, or on an impulse. You need the right fit and construction.

Someone with high arches needs different shoes to someone with low arches. People who tend to roll their feet when their foot lands need shoes designed for that.

Sheffield

You need motion control or stability shoes depending on the severity of your pronation.

Saucony, Asics or Brooks all come highly recommended.

(I'm not a runner but a couple of my best friends are)

And it's worth considering an orthotic.
